Job Purpose:

To support 24/7 Infrastructure on Unix Platform for Telecom account.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Installation - UNIX Server OS Installation, modification of network settings.
Disk management - creating partitions for the different types of servers.
Disk space management.
Log file maintenance.
UNIX Server Asset List Management - Preparation/update of CMDB.
Attend all meeting were UNIX Servers issues are required.
Represent UNIX Server issues on Project Management teamsOS Patch level check in UNIX servers and install as per the requirement.
File system creation and mounting in UNIX servers.
Assists in the planning and design of various systems like Red hat Enterprise Linux, & software applications.
Management of vendor deliverables where services are provided externally.

Vendor Management

Escalating unresolved issues to Vendors where required.
Following up with Vendors till the resolution of the issue.
Measuring & recording the vendor performance reports.

Monitoring

CPU, Memory, RAM monitoring.
Use of Monitoring Tool Services monitoring.
Event log analysis at regular interval for maintaining the integrity of database/servers.
Hardware sizing – Capacity planning for the OS Parameters like CPU, Memory & DiskCheck routing table in UNIX servers.
Check cluster status daily including resource group and device group.
Update the EMC storage disk space like used and free space availability.

Processes

Preparation of RCA for incidents.
Implementation of Changes based on processes.
Keeping Service Desk apprised on all UNIX server issues.
Ensure the closing of UNIX related audit points.
Ensure that there is conformity to the ITIL processes. This includes Change, Problem, Incident Management)Patch deployment plan preparation with test results.

Backups

Ensure that all servers under your domain have a backup application agent.

Licenses

Aprise the IT senior manager on all License issues in your area.
Aprise the IT senior manager on all contract issues in your area.

Security

Server Patch Management.
Ensure the integrity of all root password and policies are implemented.
Ensure the security of all UNIX servers as per policies.

Qualifications.

Full time Bachelor in Science/ Engineering / Technology.
Certification: - RHCE- Redhat Certified Engineer 5.5.
SCSE - Sun certified system engineer 10.0.
Competence: - Red Hat Linux & Solaris

Vendor Management

Maintaining Database of Vendors related to Network Devices present in setup.
Escalating unresolved issues to Vendors where required.
Following up with Vendors till the resolution of the issue.
Measuring & recording the vendor performance reports.
Configure Ports for a Manageable Switch.
Configure VLAN for a Manageable Switch Network design and re-architecture.
VSAT AMC & Operations support, through their respective vendors.
WAN Link Charges and AMCs for last mile.

Monitoring

Monitoring Status of all security components and alerts.
Monitoring of firewalls.
Manage alerts for all security systems.
Spam database update status.
Monitoring Service Status (Up & Running),Virus Alerts from Critical Servers.
Logging security incidents 24X7 Monitoring of Security Devices.
Log Analysis.
Security Devices configuration Backup.
Security Device Log Management.
Security Log Monitoring.

HUB Processes

Assigning severity to the Incidents logged based on the definition.
First level analysis (investigating problems) and closure of known and low priority security incidents.
Logging Problem Ticket for unresolved Incidents.
Keeping Service Desk aprsied on all security matters.
Adhering and Implementing guidelines and policies (BS7799).
Defining Rules (like Checkpoint, PIX, IDS and Virus walls) in line with the security policy in accodance to HUB best practises.
Root Cause Analysis.
Implementation of Changes based on Hub processes.
Notifying the MTN on major incidents occurred.
Providing Reports to MTN/Program Manager as agreed with MTN.
Updating MTN On periodic intervals on the issue.
Retain principal support contracts (Software Premium Support Contracts) that would enable Wipro to get the relevant patches and bug-fixes for MTN during Incidents.
Starting and stopping of Network Devices, whenever required.
Attending Network related issues on the LAN front with respect to System network issues, Port & cable issues.

Incident & Problem Management

Tracking and Co-ordination of all incidents/problems till resolution.
Identification of probable causes of failures in the WAN environment.
Analyze Impact of associated systems, which can affect the WAN, availability.
Defining methodologies/workaround to address the probable causes of failures in case of incident or emergency.
Recommend on the possible solution/workaround to address the probable causes of failure.
Performing router, switch, and modem reconfiguration.
Coordinating with the vendors for the WAN uptime.
Managing incident on all devices which are not remotely manageable.

Configuration Management

Maintain connectivity maps of the WAN environment, detailing the connectivity and type of communication medium deployed.
Maintaining protocol address registers and record changes, additions or deletions of sites.
Monitor and control configuration aspects like IP address, subnet maskMaintain a repository of the IOS images standardized for the WAN environment.

Capacity & Availability Management

Usage and Bandwidth Analysis.
Recommendations to MTN for upgrades, consolidation.
Analyze traffic and identify opportunities for setting QOS for the business services.
Analyze use of the Network services like DHCP and WINS and recommend consolidation, distribution of the services.

Licenses

Aprise the senior manager on all License issues in your area.
Aprise the senior manager on all contract issues in your area.

Backups

Perform backups of relevant system configurations.
Configuration Backup & Recovery Drills.
Backup configuration files periodically or otherwise as and when changes are affected.
Conducting drills based on defined redundancies and disaster recovery.

Develop and maintain an up-to-date electronic database on local suppliers, SMEs and other appropriate support services within the Hoima and Masindi regions.
Collate and publish appropriate procurement opportunities linked to the oil and gas sector to Traidlinks Enterprise Centre users and local business community, in line with Traidlinks Enterprise Development strategy in the region.
Establish and manage systems of standards to ensure that the services provided by contracted service partners meet the demands of businesses in Traidlinks Enterprise programme.
Manage service providers, ensuring they deliver effective services to client companies and individuals that are high quality and value for money.
Together, with the Enterprise Development Project Manager, establish a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework and reporting structure for the complete Enterprise Development Project & Enterprise Centre for core funders of the Project.
Takes full financial responsibility for the management of the Hoima Enterprise Centre budget agreed with the Enterprise Development Project Manager.
Manages, set targets, reviews and develops the Hoima Enterprise Centre Staff.
Deputise for the Enterprise Development Project Manager, when required.
