Job Description
The Agribusiness Initiative (aBi) Trust is an institution set up by the governments of Uganda and Denmark to support agribusiness initiatives in the country. In particular it is to support the private sector to increase their contribution to the agricultural sector by increasing productivity and competitiveness leading to poverty reduction through economic growth, wealth, and employment creation.
The vision of aBi Trust is of “competitive private sector led agriculture in Uganda” with the mission to “promote private sector driven agribusiness development to enhance wealth creation in the country”.
The aBi Trust achieves its mission and vision through interrelated sub-components. The subcomponents are:
1 .Value Chain Development leading to improved performance of value chain actors, including trade-related Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS) leading to increased trade opportunities.
2 Financial Services Development (FSD) leading to expansion of financial services by supporting agribusiness in order to increased availability and use of financial services.
3 Cross-cutting Gender for Growth that fully integrates gender equality in each of the sub components and manages a fund piloting innovative gender equality approach in agriculture.

Monitoring & Evaluation MANAGER (MEM)(1)
The MEM reports to the Agribusiness Director.
1. key functions
His/her duties and responsibilities include but limited to:
Ensuring that an effective and participatory M&E system is maintained in as decentralized a manner as is possible and would be effective.
Spearheading the preparation of the AWPB by seeking departmental inputs in order to produce these plans with the full commitment of the team.
Guiding staff and implementing partners in preparing their progress reports and steer the process for designing the format of such progress reports.
Preparing consolidated progress reports for management to submit to the relevant bodies, in accordance with approved reporting formats and timing.
Engaging key stakeholders in important external evaluations to ensure an understanding of locally perceived impacts and challenges.
Spearheading the revision of the program log frame matrix, particularly in the areas highlighted by the mid-term review team.
Identifying other M&E resources that the program needs to contract. Supervising organizations that are contracted to implement special surveys and studies required for evaluating project outcomes and impacts.
Undertaking regular visits to the field to support implementation of M&E.
Guiding the process of program compliance to DCED standards of M&E and other projects undertaken in the unit.
Regularly appraising of unit staff to provide feedback and support that enables them to do their jobs better.
2. General qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University coupled with exceptional technical skills in Monitoring & Evaluation, Data management, supervision and assessment.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art research design issues and quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques.
Proficiency in Microsoft programs particularly statistical packages and report writing.
Specific skills and experiences
Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a Monitoring & Evaluation role, preferably in an International donor funded environment.
Demonstrated experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis as well as database management. Strong organizational, interpersonal and management skills.
Strong analytical and report writing experience.
Understanding of the logical framework approach and other strategic planning approaches.
Planning and implementation of M&E systems.
Ability to adhere to reporting deadlines.
A solid understanding of rural development, with a focus on participatory processes, joint management, and gender issues,
