Programme Officer PRO BONO Job at Uganda Law Society

Job Title: Programme Officer PRO BONO

The programme Officer will be under the direct supervision of the Manager Pro Bono and overall supervision of the head Legal Aid and Pro Bono Services. He/ She is responsible for assisting the manager Pro Bono in coordinating and implementing the Pro Bono scheme.

Job Description:
  • Receiving and interviewing Pro Bono clients,
  • Preparing and submitting monthly progress and activity reports to the Manager Pro Bono
  • Regularly maintaining an updated database of allocated cases and their status
  • Regularly maintaining an updated database of advocates enrolled into the scheme
  • Conducting research and preparing briefs and opinions for the manager Pro Bono
  • representing Pro Bono clients in courts of law and any other forum when need be.
Person Specifications:
  • LLB and post graduate diploma in Legal practice
  • Must be enrolled with at least two years of working experience of active practice and qualified to appear before the high court.
  • Knowledge of luganda will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Head of Department Policy and Advocacy

The Head policy and Advocacy will work under direct supervision of the Executive director and is part of the senior management of the organization, responsible for accessing, generating and providing information on legal policy issues, abuses or violation of human rights and other matters relating to the rule of law in Uganda.

Responsibilities:
  • undertaking public policy research, analysis and providing the council with information on policy gaps and/ or needs to be addressed.
  • Carrying out research in relevant areas to gain understanding of public issues and making recommendations for appropriate action
  • Take the lead in the consolidation and production of position papers and legal opinions of the society to advance the cause, mission and vision of ULS as will be specified from time to time by the Executive Director and the council.
  • Take the lead in the coordination of the mobilization of resources to sustain the above mission and objectives of the organization
