Responsibilities
• Through Living Goods (LGs) branch office, direct and coordinate LG sales and marketing activities to maximize sales and gross profit
• Recruiting, hiring and training force of sales agents developing the most well trained, professional sales force possible.
• Plan, organize, and direct sales agents to ensure sales objectives are met.
• Offer sales agents coaching, counseling, advice, support, motivation and information they need in order to help them meet their sales objectives.
• Create and implement incentives and motivational schemes to maximize the potential of the sales force.
• Play a role identifying the optimal location for setting up branch office.
• Work with sales agents and LG staff to identify market needs and provide information to the US and Uganda HQ teams for new product development.
• Identify and disseminate new products that increase sales and margin; New products should be tested vigorously and on a regular basis.
• Keep up to date on market trends and new products.
• Understand sales objectives for all agents/territories and have a thorough understanding of local markets where sales opportunities exist (i.e. demographics, education trends, financing capacity, other key external influences).
• Oversee and implement any changes to LG business training to prepare agents for starting and managing a business.
• Responsible for monthly reporting on sales, inventory and financial statements (P&L).
• Creation and execution of marketing plans to increase revenues; this will leverage LG’s existing marketing plans and will include the design of marketing materials, development and testing of promotions, creation of communication plans, development of marketing partnerships.
• Other projects as assigned.

• Minimum 7 years sales management role with proven success record.

Background

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment, Ministry of Local Government, the districts in the region of Mbale, and UNDP developed a project titled “Territorial Approach to Climate Change in Mbale Region”. The project addresses the need for a holistic approach to climate change adaptation and mitigation and aims to support Mbale Region to realize low carbon and climate resilient development.

This project is in line with the UNDP/ Government of Uganda Country Programme Action Plan (2010-2014) that is guiding implementation of UNDP support to interventions geared towards achievement of the National Development Plan. Some of these interventions will address key challenges to growth and poverty reduction, such as environmental/ natural resources degradation and the negative impacts of climate change and disaster risks at both national and local levels.

In particular, the project aims to:

Develop an integrated territorial climate change plan for Mbale region.
Establish a coordination platform for climate change planning and programming.
Build local capacity to integrate climate change issues into regional development plans and actions.
Develop a climate change policy and investment package.
Compile and disseminate best practices and lessons learnt. The project will be implemented by Mbale District Local Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment and the districts of Manafwa and Bududa. The project offices will be located in Mbale town.

The project is seeking the services of a Finance and Administrative Assistant who will provide assistance to the Project Manager in the implementation of day –to- day project activities. He/ she is responsible for all administrative (contractual, organizational and logistical) and all accounting (disbursement, record keeping, cash management) matters under the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide general administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the Project Management Unit.
Provide logistical support to the Project Manager, Technical Advisor and project consultants in conducting different project activities (trainings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, arrangements of study tours, etc).
During the visits of foreign experts, bear the responsibility of their visa support, transportation, hotel accommodation, etc.
Organize/control of budget expenditures by preparing payment documents and compiling financial reports.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invites internal and external applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of COUNTRY OFFICE SECURITY ASSOCIATE (COSA) in Kampala.

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Country Office Security Focal Point (CO SFP) and will provide assistance in the implementation of the security plan and matters relating to safety and security operations and management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

Provide assistance to the CO SFP in the implementation of the of the UNDP security plan, which will be based on the country security plan. This includes updating of staff lists and the administration of the CO warden-plan.
Assist in the maintenance and monitoring of the Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Operational Residential Security Standards (MORSS) compliance of UNDP staff, offices, projects, equipment and other areas. Identify the Emergency Communication Equipment needs and maintains proper distribution of those equipment to ensure MOSS, MORSS and BCP
Assists in the preparation of UNDP security reports, such as monthly security update for ST/CO, updated staff list, incident reports, weekly reports and any other report required by ST/CO.
Provides general administrative assistance to the CO SFP: Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents. Arranges appointments, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls and answers queries with discretion, and takes minutes and/or notes at meetings on security issues of the CO.
Information gathering and sharing: Provides substantive support to the CO SFP in collecting and updating information with regards to security issues and communicating them to the SRSA or CO SFP. Disseminate information affecting staff safety and security to all concerned in the CO and UNDP Projects.
Provide assistance in the conduct and follow up of investigations and incidents affecting UNDP staffs and offices.
Conduct, in close cooperation with UNDSS, UNDP Security Risk Assessments (SRA), evaluations and surveys and advise the CO SFP on security measures for UNDP offices, project staff, as well as the latest trends and threats to staff safety and security.
In cooperation with UNDSS, maintain close contact and liaise with host government agencies and other UN agencies to obtain latest information regarding the security situation in the country and update CO SFP and SRSA.
Represents UNDP at security meetings, as appropriate, in the absence of CO SFP.
Perform UNDP SURGE duties in the sub-region under the direction of the RSA/SRSA as required.
Provide substantive security-related input in the preparation, review and implementation of Business Continuity Plan (BCP) of the CO.
Monitor movements of UNDP vehicles, staff, consultants, missions and visitors in the country, in cooperation with UN Radio Room/SIOC. Attend and conducts periodic check of HF/VHF radio, satellite phones and other communication equipment issued to UNDP staff, wardens and other key personnel.
Supervise all CO safety and reception staff employed for the security of CO, develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all functions under his/her supervision
Prepare guard shifts, schedules and roster for the guard and ensure that all sites are adequately covered by guards.
Undertake frequent patrols and spot checks of all areas under his/her responsibility to ensure that all guards are working according to the established SOPs and are well uniformed. Ensure that guards are fully briefed and conduct their shift hand-over in accordance with established SOPs and that the site is not left unattended at any time.
Ensure that access control of staff, visitors, vehicles and material/goods entering and leaving the installations is being maintained as per established SOPs.
Plan and conduct office/building evacuation exercises, fire drills, first-aid and CPR campaigns in close coordination with UNDSS and other neighboring agencies, and ensure that these activities as adequately documented.
Establish and maintain good working relations, in close cooperation with UNDSS, with local law enforcing agencies, fire brigade, hospitals and other relevant authorities.
Prepare draft budget for MOSS /TAR or any other security works and submit timely for approval.
Handle all emergencies and crisis involving UNDP CO, on a 24/7 basis, in close collaboration with UNDSS, and immediately report such incidents to CO SFP and SRSA.
Perform other security-related tasks assigned by the CO SFP

The Centers for Diseases Control is seeking an individual for the position of Communications Specialist.

Note: All applicants who are not family members of USG employees officially assigned to post and under Chief of Mission authority must be residing in country and have the required work and/or residency permits to be eligible for consideration.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Develop and implement a communication strategy that promotes information sharing and learning between CDC-Uganda and other local and international agencies and organizations, as well as the general public. The incumbent will be the official spokesperson and Public Relations representative for CDC-Uganda.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. Education Required: A Bachelor's degree in communications including degrees in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Affairs, Public Relations and Policy, Information Science, Political Science and Public Health Communication is required.

2. Work Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in communications- including but not limited to print/electronic media, publishing, public relations, web design and data base management, professional writing and editing in English is required.

3. Language Requirement: List both English and host country language(s) by level and specialisation with Level IV (fluent) in written and spoken English ability is required.

4. Knowledge: A keen knowledge of HIV-related issues is required. Understanding of Uganda’s political, media, economic, social and educational structure, institutions, and key figures in influential institutions is required. Must have knowledge of public policies and main issues within the planning and implementation of these initiatives.

5. Skills and Abilities: Must have excellent public relations, professional writing/editing and speaking skills in English. Must have proven communications and interpersonal skills as the work requires substantial contact and interaction with technical offices, Mission management, and U.S. Embassy and CDC-Atlanta staff. Computer literacy, with proficiency in applications such Microsoft Word, Power Point and Desk Top publishing software is required. The incumbent must have strong electronic design and editing skills for presentations, databases and web pages.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, Eligible Family Members and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that all candidates address the required qualifications above in the application.

After an initial application screening, applicants will be invited to a testing process that may include a written examination and oral interviews. The selected candidate must pass pre-employment medical and security investigations before beginning work. The initial appointment period is one year, subject to renewal.

Normally, candidates for employment are hired at the first step of the designated pay grade. In some instances, candidates may be hired at a higher step when exceptional qualifications or previous governmental service and pay level so warrant. The Human Resources Officer will make the decision with the concurrence of the employing section.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3. EFMs who currently hold an EFM appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of that appointment.
