Water For People is currently operating in 10 countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Water For People Uganda is seeking candidates to fill the above mentioned position based in Kampala.

Job summary: Lead in the development of design plans, working drawings, technical specifications, bill of quantities as per approved standards by the Ministry of Water & Environment; supervision of implementation and contract administration of water supply development including water supply installation and borehole drilling, Water supply construction, and Water spring Protection works, and sanitation facilities and waste disposal systems; Mainstreaming of private sector management approaches in all water related interventions

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Providing technical advisory support to private sector operators of hand pump and gravity fed piped water systems and user committees of community managed water schemes.
2. Assist community based projects to integrate sustainable O&M practices in management of WfP supported water schemes.
3. Assist Local government authorities, Water Boards and User committees to prepare tender documents for soliciting bids/tenders from contractors, and engage entrepreneurs to manage the privately run water schemes.
4. Monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of water schemes and supervise contractors overseeing construction and rehabilitation of water schemes and sanitation facilities according to government set standards ensuring quality control.
5. Ensure that the “Everyone, Forever” strategy in Kamwenge District has adequate support for design and implementation of water supply and sanitation activities after exit of Water for People.
6. Develop and implement a long term capacity building programme with partner organisations that embraces organisational and technical issues with local government authorities, private sector and local NGOs within the context of Uganda government sector policy and the changing role of Government.
7. Review latrine designs ensuring that they are appropriate to each given context; aspects such as cost, environmental standards, sustainability should be considered.
8. Keep database of all water supply and sanitation projects implemented under the county program. This to include geo-coordinates of water points, water quality, quantity and depths of boreholes and shallow wells etc.
Requirement:    

Required Qualifications and Skills
1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Water and Sanitation Engineering Civil Engineering, Water Resource Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
2. Computer literacy particularly in AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, Power point, and SPSS.
3. Ability to lead and work as part of a team, flexible, adaptable and patient
4. Ability to plan own work, work under pressure when faced with competing demands.
5. Ability to communicate both written and spoken English, be innovative
6. Ability to work away from workstation and travelling in remote and / or rural environments.
7. Demonstrable analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, timetable agreed activities and oversee activities.
This position will report directly to the Country Director.

Job Title: Linkage Coordinator

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF)

Reporting to: Doctor incharge
Purpose: S/he will be responsible for monitoring of all HIV positive clients linked into care and treatment services and will be responsible for tracking those lost to follow up (LTFU). The person will work closely with the clinical teams in the accredited ART sites, sub county focal persons and Village Health Teams to ensure appropriate and timely linkage and tracking. In addition the person will also support the ART teams and supervise staff nurses attached to ART sites.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide technical assistance in the implementation of demand creation for HCT and ART
• Ensure that all clients diagnosed HIV positive are linked to care and treatment facilities/providers and tracking of those Lost To Follow Up
• Support training of lay cadres and other service providers with regard to linkage to care and follow up
• Work closely with the clinical teams to adequately forecast and plan for HIV/AIDS commodity needs
• Provide technical support to the ART Clinic implementation team with regard to provision of comprehensive HIV care services.
• Provide technical support to participating partners to ensure successful implementation of linkages and follow up
• Document all lessons learnt and best practices with regard to linkages for replication to other AHF-UC sites and partners.
• Ensure correct and timely data collection and reporting by health facilities and lay cadres
• Any other duties assigned
Requirement:    

Qualification and Work experience
• A bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, health administration or related discipline
• A minimum of two years of experience coordinating behavior change communication activities and capacity building at the community level around the areas of HIV, TB, and sexual health
• Experience facilitating dialogues between community stakeholders, heath providers and local and national government
• Experience administering HIV tests and related counselling

Essential knowledge:
• Ability to ride motorbike and possession of clean riding license.
• Ability to write operational reports, technical procedures, government regulations/policies, documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Locations: Kampala office ; Key Responsibilities:
i The stores assistant is responsible for proper record keeping, process stores requisitions, receive deliveries from vendors, dispatch goods to the branches, update of inventory management software/tools, forecasting of supplies, good stores layout, safety of goods & timely reporting to management.
Qualification and Experience:
• Diploma in Stores Management or Procurement or equivalent relevant qualification.
• Computer knowledge a must, knowledge & experience on Tally Software is added advantage.
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience, with an NGO or Developmental organization in a related field.
• Good spoken and written English.

Specific Activities:
• Assist in development of study protocols, including design, populations, sampling, data collection methods and tools, and analysis.

• Coordinate logistics planning and organization for field data collection and participate in data collection activities,

• Draft and facilitate submission to and approval of research protocols by local ethical boards and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, as well as submissions to PATH research ethics committees, if applicable.

• Maintain research records and documentation according to study protocols, including research database, names/list of local consultants, research institutions and research assistants, data collection forms, consents, and all communications related to each study.

• Facilitate and manage community engagement and entry for local research projects and initial program
implementation.

• Identify appropriate sites within Uganda for research and program implementation activities

• Work with administrative staff to translate or arrange for translation of data collection tools and facilitate processing of allowances, claims and other remuneration for consultants and other local research team members.

• Provide additional support to PATH Uganda country manager as necessary to build the research portfolio of PATH in Uganda.
Preferred Skills:    
Required Skills:
• Knowledge of the principles of research design, implementation, and analysis

• Experience in community assessment and engagement related to health matters on either a research or program implementation level

• Clear understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research processes acquired through both practical and academic experience.

Medicines and Health Services Delivery Monitoring Unit (MHSDMU) was established in 2009 by H.E the president of the republic of Uganda as a strategic response to existing challenges in the health sector. The backbone of MHSDMU’s success is information gathered through various sources.

In December 2011, Ministry of Health together with WHO and UNICEF with funding from DFID launched mTrac. It is a system that utilizes mobile phones to enhance the quality and timeliness of the transmission of health data thus strengthening health management and accountability. This is complemented by a strategy to provide a Short-Message Service (SMS) Hotline for Anonymous Health Service Complaints and support for increased community demand for and dialogue around health services. MHSDMU is a key partner in implementation of the mTrac initiative; its role is to identify and follow up health service delivery related concerns from mTrac. The Unit is thus, seeking to recruit a Statistician with support from WHO under this initiative.

Responsibilities:
• Triangulate all complaints generated by anonymous hotline and generate monthly reports.

• Maintain data integrity, confidentiality and efficient operations by following policies and procedures.

• Run analysis of data and generate reports.

• In coordination with the M&E office, collect data and enter it into the data base.

• Verify entered data to ensure accuracy and compliance with set standards.

• Assist in selection of data collection procedures, designing questionnaires, field manuals and data collection tools etc.

• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Preferred Skills:    
Basic skills required for the Statistician job:
• Minimum of a Masters in Statistics or Epidemiology and/or Biostatistics and a first degree in statistics.

• 5 years’ experience in an extremely analytical role OR in the field of Epidemiology and/or monitoring and Evaluation.

• Familiar with the best reporting formats.

• Demonstrate knowledge in analyzing QoL

Competencies required
• Very strong command of statistical packages, such as Stata and SPSS

• Highly profficient use of SQL for extraction and manipulation of data

• Working knowledge of statistics
