Key responsibilities;
The Program Officer will report to the Steering Committee of the Pan African Human Rights
Defenders Network and her/his responsibilities include:
 Designing and implementing appropriate strategies and policies that promote
PAHRDN’s activities;
 Monitoring: developing program management schedules, activity analysis plan,
success score cards and benchmarks, performance indicators and monitoring and
evaluation criteria against program goals for program staff, volunteers and interns;
 Reporting: preparing regular program narrative and financial reports, briefing and
position papers for management, counterparts, partners and donors, as well as
recommending reviews and proposals to ensure that program activities address
actual needs;
 Coordination and Networking: developing and maintaining productive working
relationships with the five sub-regional networks, management, donors, partners,
beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
 Organising advocacy campaigns on key issues identified by the needs assessment at
a regional and continental level.
 Ensure all agreements with Partners and service providers are prepared, negotiated
and agreed upon;
 Promoting the overall Project Strategies, objectives and activities with stakeholders
and partners;
 Tracking and managing budgets for the above work;
 Traveling to relevant meetings and representing PAHRDN as appropriate;
 Supporting the strategic development of the Project through identification of
opportunities and risks, and contribution to the refinement and reformulation of
planned project outputs and activities, where necessary;
 Fund raising and identifying resources for PAHRDN.
The desired qualities are;
 Advanced University Degree (Human Rights, Social Sciences, Law, Development
Studies, and International Relations) with not less than five (5) extensive experience in
Human Rights Work ;
 Advanced Information Technology Skills;
 Ability to prepare reports and conduct presentations on key issues by formulating
positions, articulating options concisely, and making and defending recommendations;
 Communication: Proven ability to write and speak concisely and clearly and
communicate effectively;
 Experience in a multi-cultural and/or international work environment;
 Stress resilient and ability to multi task;
 Commitment to gender equality as well as to cultural, ethnic, religious, sexual
orientation etc equality;
 Analytical skills as well as creative and interactive skills;
 Team spirit: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and
respect for diversity;
 Willingness and ability to travel extensively ( about 40% of the time)
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written French and English is mandatory. Knowledge of
