Job Title: Regional Wetlands Coordinators for- Central and Eastern (2 positions)
Reports to: Principal Wetlands Officer – Policy and District Support
Purpose: Provide technical backstopping and support supervision to Local Governments and other stakeholders in the region of jurisdiction. Institute and streamline the Institutional arrangements, activities and operations of the Regional Technical Support Units and Wetland Site Management Committees.

2.1.1. Tasks:
Conduct Needs Assessment and organize training for wetland Extension Agents and other stakeholders to develop and operationalise Regulations, Standard and Resource User Guidelines;
Provide Technical input and backstopping to Districts and Lower Local Governments in the development, implementation and review of Natural Resources/Wetland Ordinances and byelaws;
Technically backstop the preparation and implementation of District Wetland Action Plans, and coordinate their collation and onward submission to the Wetlands Management
Department and advise on fund allocation; Establish, equip and operationalise the Regional Technical Support Units;
Oversee and coordinate wetland management activities in specific regions of assignment;
Set-up Wetland Platforms, Inter-district Wetland Management Committees, Ramsar Site Management Committees, Wetland Resource User Groups and Wetland Management Committees, for exchanging lessons, experiences and information on wetland management and document Best Practices and lessons learnt;
Establish and maintain a strong working mechanism with the Water Management Zone and any other inter-district institutional arrangement within the region, Conduct regular ecological monitoring of Ramsar sites within the region.
Prepare individual monthly and quarterly reports and work plans, fill individual appraisal forms;
Carry out any other duties assigned by the Principal Wetlands Officer-Policy and District Support.
2.1.2. Qualifications
An Honors degree in Wetland or Natural Resource Management from a recognized institution. A post graduate training in Natural Resources Planning and Management; and knowledge or experience in community/rural development is an advantage;
Served as a Wetlands Officer or an equivalent position within or outside the government service for at least three years and have acquired sufficient and reasonable experience to shoulder higher responsibilities;
Demonstrated ability, initiative and competence in directing, organizing and executing work entrusted at this level.
Thirty (30) years of age and above.
2.1.3. Duration of Assignment:
Eighteen (18) months contract will be awarded to the successful candidate, commencing immediately on appointment. Possibility of extension, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
2.1.4. Location and Remuneration
The Regional Wetlands Coordinator will be stationed at the Regional Technical Support Unit in the assigned region. An attractive salary will be offered to the successful candidate.
