Reporting to: Legal counsel.

Purpose of the position

To safeguard UWA property and interests through Legal Department in order to keep UWA operating its business in line with the law and ensure the Uganda Wildlife Authority is protected against all forms of litigation.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    Liaises with different Government Ministries e.g. Ministry of Tourism Trades Industry, Ministry of Justice (Company registry) and Ministry of lands to ensure that proper monitoring and registration process is finalised & ensure that UWA property is registered in UWA names.
    Liaises with the legal counsel on all legal matters.
    Serves as Secretary to the Departmental Meetings.
    Sets up and maintains the statutory registers in consultation with legal counsel.
    Drafts legal documents between Uganda Wildlife Authority and its clients and other third parties and forwards them to legal counsel to consider.
    Offers legal advice as and when required on various matters arising out of the day-to-day operations of the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
    Liaises and coordinates with the external lawyer, law firms, receivers, auctioneers or any other third party representing the Uganda Wildlife Authority on any matter under the guidance of the legal counsel.
    Performs any other official related duties as may be assigned by Principal legal or the ED and his/her representatives from time to time.

Requirement:

    Should have minimum of four years reasonable experience two of which should be in a Government establishment or prominent busy company Education.
    University graduate of law, from a recognized university specializing in commercial or company law,
    Should possess at least a postgraduate diploma in legal practice.
    Should have a valid practicing certificate Should be registered with the Uganda Law Society Knowledge, skills and abilities Good knowledge of the principles and practices of company law, Land law or commercial law, and the procedures guiding the public sector.
    Should possess a good understanding of legal practice, Should be a good observer, listener and a careful analytical person who is able to detect crime in time &, attaches attention to detail.

Scope:
The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is interested in recruiting a Deputy Executive Director. The main function of the position will be to provide support to the Executive Director's office, and Head the Science and Public Affairs Unit of the organization.

    The minimum educational requirement is a Masters degree in Public Health with five years of experience working within public health at the state or national level.
    Post graduate training in business, management or public administration OR experience in lieu of qualification will be an advantage..
    Good knowledge of MS Office programs like Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    Experience:
    Experience working in an NGO setting for at least three years and served at mid or top managerial level for at least one year
    Experience applying for, managing and accounting for grants
    Experience in the basics of accounting and financial management, auditing regulations and fulfilling project targets
    Conversant with human resource management in small and medium sized organizations
    Involvement in advocacy campaigns for training programs and preferably field epidemiology training programs.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of local and federal laws and regulations; of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques; of accounting, budgeting and financial principles; and of the principles and practices of public administration and management.
    Knowledge of the complexities of field epidemiology training and the ability to identify and evaluate training opportunities.
    Knowledge of a range of donor guidelines including but not limited to USG regulations including USAID 22 CFR 226 and 228, OMB Circulars; European Union; the Gates Foundation and others.
    Ability to direct and organize program activities; to establish program goals and objectives that support the strategic plan; to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions; to develop and evaluate policies and procedures; to direct the development of policies and procedures; to prepare concise reports; to make presentations and; to communicate effectively; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

The SME Initiative at Innovations for Poverty Action seeks a qualified Project Associate to join a study of the impact of a business skills training program for women entrepreneurs. The SME Initiative at IPA coordinates and supports research on the SME sector in developing economies, and this evaluation assesses the direct and indirect impacts of business skills training implemented in Kampala, Entebbe, Mukono and Jinja. The Principal Investigators are Dean Karlan, Greg Fischer, and Meredith Startz.

The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand field management experience in an organization undertaking cutting-edge development research . The work will stretch your analytical and management skills to the limit and will require your full commitment in a challenging environment. This position will be based in Kampala with some travel to surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

The Project Associate works closely with academic researchers, the Project Coordinator and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

    Overseeing multiple rounds of data collection , including follow-up surveys and a final endline survey;
    Developing and piloting the survey instruments; programming surveys onto mobile devices; and managing the translation of the survey into the local language;
    Hiring, training, and managing data collection teams;
    Managing data from collection at the businesses to the delivery of a final, cleaned dataset;
    Ensuring adherence to IPA and study protocols including auditing enumerators, performing daily checks of incoming data, and ensuring data is of the highest quality;
    Coordinating and maintaining close relationships with the local implementing partner; and
    Assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

    A Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics, public policy, international development, social sciences, or related fields;
    Excellent project management and organizational skills;
    Demonstrated ability to lead staff efficiently to achieve project goals and to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations;
    Strong quantitative skills, with a background in statistics preferred;
    Knowledge of Stata (preferred), SAS, or other data analysis software required; programming and other technical knowledge a strong plus;
    Familiarity with randomized controlled trials preferred; and
    Experience living or working in a developing country.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

This position is full time and holds no supervisory duties.  The incumbent will be appointed for a one year (52 week) period.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Education Required:  Completion of a high school diploma is required.

2.  Work Experience:  Two years of secretarial experience, either with the US government or at an executive level in another organization is required.

3.  Language Requirement:  Level IV (fluent - written and spoken) English ability is required.
4.   Knowledge:  Knowledge of general office management and administrative procedures is also required.
 5.  Skills and Abilities:  Ability to draft a variety of correspondence and to function well in a multi task environment with constant shifting priorities is required. SELECTION PROCESS
After an initial application screening, applicants will be invited for oral interviews.  The selected candidate must pass pre-employment security investigations before beginning work.  The initial appointment period is one year, subject to renewal.
