About this job
Our Client is a Construction Company that is seeking to recruit a result driven and motivated individual for the vacancy above;
Duties and Responsibilities:
LEGAL
In house Counsel / Legal Advisor
advise on all company’s legal obligations on compliance – Company’s Act : Land Laws and all laws generally.
Draft Agreements / Powers of Attorney, Resolutions and any other Legal instruments.
Peruse Bank Borrowing Instruments and advise
Advise, discuss and handle with outside Counsel all legal cases filed by or against the company to Draft letters for and on behalf of Management with legal bias and obligations in mind.
HUMAN RESOURCE
Employment, recruitment , confirmation and appraisal of permanent staff (on tickets)in Consultation with Heads of Sections / Sites
Recruit in consultation with Sections / Site Heads trained, experienced artisans in All fields i.e. Carpentry, Welding, Electrical, Masons, etc
Administer and interpret the “Company’s Terms and Conditions of Service”
Administer, interpret and comply with labour related Laws
- The Employment Act No. 6 of 2006
- The Workers Compensation Act No: 8 of 2000
- The Occupational Safety and Health Act No:9 of 2006
- Kampala City Council Bye-Laws and regulations and liaise with Officials concerned
Liaise and maintain good Public Relations with the District Labour Office and the Divisional Labour Office.
Ensure matters pertaining to staff welfare i.e. meals and medical treatment, compensation for injuries sustained by employees are handled fairly and promptly.
Supervise and give guidance to Nurses manning Medical Clinics at Kawempe and Construction Sites and the company’s accredited Nsambya Hospital.
Ensure maintaining and up-dating of human resource records i.e. letters of appointment, Warning letters, termination letters, appraisals, photos, CVS, academic certificates, LC1 letters,Leave, etc.
Preparation of monthly “LABOUR STATISTICAL REPORTS” for the ROKO GROUP (Roko Rwanda/ Roko Sudan) on a monthly basis.
Notification of Public Holidays / Deaths to Management and Staff.
Attend to workers grievances and promote good, smooth industrial relations.
IMMIGRATION
Read, interpret and comply with the “Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control Act No: 3 of 1999”
Ensure all expatriate employees formalize their immigration Status and those of their families i.e. wife and children by processing
Entry VISA usually issued on arrival.
Special Passes initially valid for three (3) months extendedable by two (2) months.
Entry Permits must be approved before the five (5) months expire.
Dependants Passes for wives
Students Passes for school children under eighteen (18) years
Obtain Entry Visas from Locally Accredited Embassies for Directors / Management / Senior Officers travelling on duty to Rwanda and Southern Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania or anywhere else.
NEW CONSTRUCTION SITES – REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLIANCE
All new construction sites must comply with THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT NO. 9 of 2006 SECTIONS 6, 7, 8, 40, 42.
Applications for new power connections with UMEME in liaison with the Electrical Section U102, Kawempe.
Applications for new water connections with National Water and Sewage Corporation in liaison with the Plumbing Section U105, Kawempe.
Application for hoarding / fencing Permits from Kampala City Council Divisions i.e. Nakawa, Kawempe, Lubaga, Makindye, Central Division OR if outside Kampala District, Municipalities and District Head Offices.
Recruitment for new Sites in liaison with the Project Managers / Construction Managers of the new sites.
Other assignments as given by Directors and Management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of laws (honors) Degree from a recognized University.
Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
An enrolled Advocate (min. 5 years).
A qualification in Human Resource Management will be of added advantage.
Should have worked in a senior managerial position in a reputable institution (public / private) and handled inter-alia Legal / Human Resource work.
