Location: Uganda INTERN WORKSITE LOCATION: Kaabong and Kotido, Uganda DATES OF INTERNSHIP: January-March 2011 LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 2-3 months

The intern will support ACKT primarily through report and success story writing. OBJECTIVES: Responsibilities will include:
•Support the Mercy Corps Uganda M&E Coordinator in carrying out the BBP final evaluation, assisting with refresher training for staff and enumerators on data collection tools, organizing logistical support for the evaluation, and supervising data collection and data entry. •Develop new tool to explore the impact of the joint livelihoods projects implemented under BBP. •Analyze data, including leading qualitative analysis of focus group discussion data and supporting the M&E Coordinator to conduct a rigorous quantitative (statistical) analysis of survey and monitoring data. •Contribute to the final evaluation report in collaboration with program team. •Time permitting, contribute to ACKT’s cross border economic opportunities assessment. •Draft 1 success story for BBP and 1 for ACKT. •Draft 1 blog post per month. •Any other duties. All activities will be carried out in close collaboration with the BBP and ACKT field teams and the coordinator of the research project. DELIVERABLES: •Contribution to BBP final evaluation report. •2 success stories •1 blog posts IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS: •MA/S candidate or equivalent in International Development or related field •Experience conducting monitoring and evaluation or other social science research activities in the field •Excellent writing skills and analytical abilities •Strong research skills and the ability to distill key points/themes out of large amounts of information •Technical skills using Word and Excel •Statistical data analysis skills with SPSS, SAS, or STATA desired •Experience working abroad on conflict management programming desired •Experience conducting social science or econometric research related to poverty or conflict desired •Ability to work both independently and in a small team on on-going and short-term projects
LIVING CONDITIONS:
The intern will be based in either Kotido or Kaabong depending on the security situation. Both towns are located in Karamoja, northern Uganda. Accommodation will be basic but comfortable, including electricity and running water. Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Staff are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC’s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
