Background
Under the overall guidance of the Country Director and direct supervision of the Communications Analyst, the Communication Assistant supports the effective communication strategy of the country office by collecting and collating current affairs information and UNDP communications and managing data and publicizing CO project and programme achievements and milestones consistent with UNDP rules and regulations.
The Communications Assistant works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects’ staff in the CO and supports the Communications Analyst in communicating with UNDP HQs as required for resolving complex communication and information related issues and the exchange of information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Functions / Key Results Expected
Summary of Key Functions:
- Support to formulation of CO communication strategies and publicizing of the UNDP projects and activities
- Administrative support to the communications team
- Support to resource mobilization through publications and production of brochures and news articles
- Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing
Supports formulation of communication and publicity strategies of the country office focusing on achievement of the following results:
* Collection, analysis and presentation of UNDP CO background information for communicating the objectives and achievements of the CCA, UNDAF, CPD and CPAP.
Provides administrative support to communications unit focusing on achievement of the following results:
* Review of development related data and information including news articles and publications and supporting the development of UNDP related messages for the media.
* Maintenance of the project information, pictures and news articles for effective support to communication on all UNDP activities and projects team.
* Liaises with communication specialists from other UN agencies in support of the UNDP communications strategy and participates in the UN Communications Group activities and programmes.
* Liaises with representatives of all national electronic and print media institutions in support of the CO communications strategy.
Supports the units resource mobilization strategy focusing on achievement of the following results:
* Supports the collection, collation and analysis of information on country office projects and programmes for dissemination to interested development partners and donors,and for the preparation of donor’s profile.
* Publicize successful collaboration with donors and other development partners in support of the Resource Mobilization strategy.
Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the area development communications focusing on achievement of the following results:
* Support the publicity of and reporting on CO trainings for the all staff.
* Support the synthesis of lessons learnt and publication of best practices.
* Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
Impact of Results:
* The key results have an impact on the overall visibility of UNDP and the development programmes of the country office in particular. Timely collection, analysis, preparation of accurate and informative communications on development efforts of the country office.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
* Post Secondary Education, preferably with Diploma or higher certificate in communications, Development Studies
* Business or Public Administration, Economics, Political Sciences and Social Sciences would be desirable.
Experience:
* 5 years of progressively responsible administrative or programme experience is required at the national or international level.
* Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems.
Language Requirements:
* Fluency in English and language of the duty station.
