UHMG is currently expanding and is seeking a dynamic qualified individual to fill the following position as part of its team:

POSITION : COMMUNICATION COORDINATOR (SPECIAL PROJECTS) – 1 POST DUTY STATION : UHMG HEAD OFFICE (KAMPALA) REPORTS TO : DEPUTY PROJECT MANAGER (SCIPHA)

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to initiate, develop, and direct implementation of all Special Projects communication interventions, in enhancing knowledge, and favorable attitudes towards the correct use of UHMG's products and services to encourage healthy life styles. The position is also responsible for providing professional public relations services for UHMG.

This position requires a person who has capacity in the areas of marketing and behavior change communication. The person should have the capacity to work under minimum supervision, be proactive, and institute innovative sustainable interventions.

Essential Job Functions:

Implements and helps to develop the Special Projects communication and marketing activities and materials including mass media campaigns, PR activities, community interventions for all products and services in collaboration with the UHMG Head of Communications.
Liaises on a day-to-day basis with outside contractors including advertising agencies, PR firms, consultants, production facilities, printers, etc.
Collaborates with the Head of Communications to develop creative briefs.
Works with advertising agency creative team to ensure their understanding of creative brief and is first contact person for any creative materials that come from them.
Responsible for the Special Projects media plans and associated budgets.
Works with production houses to ensure quality production and timeliness for both print and broadcast materials.
Responsible for the implementation and development of formative research and pretesting for the development of all communication and marketing materials.
Assist in the development of the Special Projects research and evaluation plans to ensure studies inform communication strategy development and program implementation.
Works with Special Projects focal persons for Family Planning, Child Health, Malaria and HIV/AIDS to help develop communication and marketing campaigns.

Minimum Requirements:

Degree in Mass Communication, Commerce (Marketing), Business Administration, or the equivalent in relevant demonstrable experience. Experience in Behavior change Communication is essential. Computer Literacy is essential. At least 3 years experience working in related work in a busy office and multi-cultural setting. Demonstrated handling of BCC interventions and campaigns. Excellent communication, public relations, advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, analytical and result-oriented skills. Excellent proposal/reporting writing skills. Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tact and discretion. Should be flexible, innovative, with good communication, presentation and interpersonal and team work skills. A self-starter, and able to work with minimum supervision. Able to work under pressure with competing deadlines. Able to work with a multi-cultural environment within the organization.
