Job Title: Specialist Broadcasting (1)
Reports to: Manager Broadcasting
Job role: The role of the job holder shall be to provide the requisite technical support in broadcasting matters and play a lead role in frequency planning for broadcasting and in the establishment of procedures and standards for broadcasting services.
Key Result Areas:
· Carry out planning and engineering activities relating to television and broadcasting facilities;
· Review standards relating to broadcasting services and carry out planning and management of the radio frequency spectrum dedicated to broadcasting and advise on the allocation of such spectrum resources in such a manner as to ensure the widest possible variety of programming;
· Review of the national television and broadcasting plans in consultation and coordination with neighbouring countries, taking into account the ITU broadcasting plans;
· Carry out technical evaluation of applications for broadcasting services and make appropriate recommendations;
· Assist in policy and plan formulation and strategies that are necessary for advancement of broadcasting services and technologies;
· Develop and implement a framework for monitoring and inspection of broadcasting stations;
· Prepare technical reports in respect of television and radio station operations;
· Ensure that monitoring of all matters relating to broadcasting services, facilities various broadcasting stations are executed in a timely manner;
· Establishment of standards, procedures and ethics for broadcasting services, and;
· Monitoring and enforcing broadcasting standards and ethics and control unauthorised broadcasting.
Qualifications/ Requirements
· A Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Electrical, Broadcasting/Radiocommunications, or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognised Institute or University;
· A minimum working experience of three (3) years in areas of broadcasting and telecommunications;
· Experience in radio and broadcasting communications is desirable;
· Knowledge in computer is a mandatory requirement, and;
· Masters degree in Electrical, Telecommunications Engineering or a related field is an added advantage.
Experience and Knowledge
· Ability to maintain high professionalism and personal values in relating to fellow staff and customers;
· Possession of good problem solving skills, strong written and verbal communication and inter-personal skills plus capacity to work as a team in the organisation;
· Demonstrates honesty and upholds the Commission’s policy and regulations, and;
· Ability to maintain an acceptable balance between office work and home life.
