World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Is one of the world’s largest independent and experienced conservation organizations operating in over 100 countries in the world. WWF Uganda Country Office (UCO) is increasing its involvement in the energy sector through its implementation of the Energy and Climate Programme at the country office. The programme is implementing several projects that include components on increasing access to clean energy alternatives, sustainable use of natural resources, promotion of wood fuel alternatives, and promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The programme is funded from NORAD through WWF Norway, DAN I DA through WWF Denmark, SIDA through WWF Sweden, and UNDP.

WWF-UCO is seeking to suitable candidates for the positions below. The candidates in addition to the specific job requirements must have demonstrated a high level of integrity and honesty. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. S/he must be a team player and ready to travel outside his/her own work station. S/he must adhere to WWF-UCO values of “Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging”.

Mission of the Department: To ensure the development and implementation of the Country Office’s Conservation Strategy to the highest standards.

Position : renewable energy officer.

Reporting Energy Manager

Location : Kampala / Kasese

Project Duration: 2years

    Main Function:

    Supports the implementation of renewable energy components of various projects hosted/ supported by the Energy and Climate Programme at the country office;
    Implements programme activities within the champion district:
    Supports the Energy Manager in monitoring of important project parameters, including compliance with work plans, milestones, targets and results;
    Provide technical support during programme planning processes.

      2. Major duties and Responsibilities:

    Plans programme interventions within the champion district
    Supervises implementing CSOs and SMEs to ensure quality outputs;
    Organises and coordinates partners to implement the champion district initiatives;
    Supports district local government, local CSOs and cultural and religious institutions to actively engage in implementation of the interventions towards increasing access to low-carbon energy alternatives in the champion district;
    Prepares training courses and seminars for a variety of partners and stakeholders within the district,

Requirement:
 Candidate Profile:

    A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant course.
    Strong interpersonal and networking skills, experience working with local or international organizations and successfully working closely with local and central government agencies on complex issues is desired;
    Experience in implementing community mobilization, broad-based awareness raising, advocacy, lobbying and capacity building (e.g. training, workshop facilitation and capacity building) Is preferable;
    Computer literacy, familiarity with GIS applications and a possession of a valid driving license;
    Knowledge and ability and /or experience in development of fundable project proposals desirable.

Working Relationships

    Internal & External Relationships: Interacts and works closely with the WWF UCO team and the relevant government Institutions, Civil Society Organisations and any other stakeholders.
