Job Summary:
Guide effective resource acquisition and implementation of health projects by advising and facilitating program development, funding, reporting and evaluation of MTI's project portfolio in Africa as needed. Develop effective relationships with institutional donors. In collaboration with field staff or partners, MTI country and HQ leadership, develop a common agenda and draft strong project designs for proposals and grants. Provide input into country strategy development and multi-year plans. Remain abreast of state-of-the-art practices in health programming. Promote and contribute to health staff development through training and technical guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Grow health, AIDS, disaster response , medical training, SGBV, and EMS project portfolio by identifying opportunities, conducting needs assessment s, identifying funding sources and writing high quality grant proposals in collaboration with country staff and HQ colleagues. · Develop strong relationships with donors and communicate with funding sources regularly.
· Provide technical guidance in assessment, project design, implementation, monitoring & evaluation and reporting to increase program quality in both relief and development projects in Africa · Support development of MTI vision and Christian ministry, initially in Uganda and E. Africa and, over time, throughout the continent. · Help develop program strategy and ensure that projects remain on target. · Ensure program quality by integrating best practices into project design and proposals. · Build staff and partner capacity by providing or training staff in project cycle management, monitoring and evaluation and health methodologies. · Establish effective monitoring and evaluation systems for key health projects. · Document results and lessons learned for broader dissemination. · Develop SOW in consultation with project managers, field leadership, and HQ departments (specifically, Technical Services and Regional Programs). · Establish collegial, mutually beneficial relationships, and share knowledge and expertise with MTI, partner and donor staff. · Represent MTI in country and regional health fora. · Ensure reporting formats and monitoring procedures are in place; and ensure thetimely submission of quality reports based on donor guidelines. · Other duties as assigned.
Desired Minimum Qualifications: · Masters in Public Health (MPH) required. MD highly desirable. · Field experience; at least five years in related development work, preferably in Africa. · Experience in international NGO program grant writing required. · Commitment to the mission of Medical Teams International. · Familiarity with international health program standards in development contexts, and ability to implement them to meet organizational needs. · Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Epi Info. Proficient in use of email, internet and communication systems. · Ability to work flexible schedule. · Demonstrated quality writer/editor; advanced document presentation and budgeting skills. · Ability to identify opportunities in international health programs and liaise with donors and other collaborating organizations. · Ability to travel up to 25% per year. · Independent worker, resourceful, innovative, problem solver, facilitation skills, analytical.
