Organization brief

Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) is a humanitarian and development organization that aims to positively contribute towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by disasters and conflict in the East and Horn of Africa. Our work involves provision of clean and accessible water supply, sanitation facilities, promotion of health/hygiene, food security and education programs. HIJRA is dedicated and committed to reconstruction of community livelihoods through its direct contacts with the communities.

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Officer, the position holder will provide efficient vehicle driving services that facilitate smooth movement of HIJRA staff and goods and ensures that vehicles assigned to him/her are maintained in excellent condition at all times. The incumbent will also be tasked to perform the following:

Plan, organize and schedule all the errands appropriately, provide driving service to all approved destinations and carry only authorized passengers while maintaining care, cleanness and safety of self, passengers and the vehicle(s), ensure that vehicle(s) movement authorization is obtained from the supervisor for every movement, observe all the procedural pre and post errand reports and recordings by ensuring that the vehicle(s) daily operation log sheets for official trip, mileage, fuel consumption, are filled correctly prior to departure and after every trip, report any car accident/incident involved to the relevant authorities/offices and provide report of the same. S/he will also ensure HIJRA vehicle(s) comply with Uganda transport regulations or any legislation, abide by driving regulations and Uganda traffic laws and organization, plan, implement and maintain vehicle service and repair schedules, coordinate the renewal of vehicle license, insurance covers and any other government requirements are up to date, take note of and report any mechanical breakdowns or failures in the vehicle(s) and maintain minor repairs and service, ensure daily/regular check of the vehicle(s) oil, fuel, radiators water, break. S/he will be able to identify and report any mechanical problems recommend spare part requirements for the vehicle, tally and submit to the supervisor monthly vehicle fuel consumption, repair/services, mileage and any other report.

Qualifications & Requirements

# Valid and clean driving license

# Secondary level of education, diploma level will be an added advantage

# At least five (5) years of continuous accident-free driving experience with proven ability to navigate four wheel drive vehicle in rough terrains

# Basic motor vehicle mechanics knowledge and skills Good experience in motor vehicle mechanic

# Good knowledge of Uganda town and the outskirts

# Basic first-aid training/skills

# Previous work experience working in international NGO environment

# Ability to compile monthly vehicles report

# Computer literate especially in MS Word and Excel

# Fluent in written and spoken English

# An individual that can cope with work with people from diverse backgrounds

Desired:

# Swahili language would be an added advantage
