Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitoring

    Database instance availability
    Memory and Cache monitoring
    Job Monitoring and Purging Job History
    Replication/ Stand By Monitoring
    Backup monitoring
    Wait events monitoring
    Grid Control Monitoring

Database Life cycle Management

    Database Software Install
    Database Creation

Security

    Plan and Setup Database Security
    Database auditing (compliance reports)

Event and Fault Management

    Alert Monitoring/ Error Resolution
    Respond to availability (e.g., DB up/down) events
    Respond to capacity (e.g., table/database free space) events
    Respond to misc/other database related events (eg alert log messages)
    Coordinate with database vendors for resolution
    Support application support/ development teams

Database configuration & Administration

    Replication setup and troubleshooting
    Database upgrades-minor
    Identification of patches
    Assessment - Risk & Impact DBMS level
    Replication setup and troubleshooting

Capacity management

    Trend Analysis and recommendation
    Database/SGA sizing

Problem management

    Trend Analysis and recommendation

Database Maintenance / Housekeeping

    Database reorganization planning

Performance Tuning

    DB Performance Monitor/Tuning reports
    Parameter tuning
    I/O tuning
    Query tuning

Advanced DBA Activities

    Security Implementation
    Administer 3rd Party DBA Tools
    Security Implementation

    Primarily role is supporting the production and development Oracle databases
    Provide 24 x7 support and on call support for databases
    Provide inputs for capacity and availability management
    Should support other Non-Oracle database on need basis such as Sybase, MySQL.
    Monitor and troubleshoot database issues

Qualifications:

    Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Oracle *.x on UNIX, Windows and NT servers
    Apply patches and upgrades for Oracle databases
    Physical Data modeling
    Database refresh
    Provides troubleshooting support for potential data issues.
    Analyzes the issue to determine the root cause and develop solutions or escalate to the right area.
    Backup/restore
    Install Oracle Client software and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
    Database and Application tuning and performance monitoring.
    Provide Database Technical support to application team
    Monitoring user connections/performance
    Move test data to dev & prod environments
    DBA tasks: permissions, DDL tasks
    Maintenance & scripting in Shell, SQL & PL/SQL, basic DB Scripting
    Should be able to support Oracle database
    Might need to work on additional skills –trained on the job
