"The American Embassy is seeking for an individual for the position of Health Unit Assistant in the Health Unit Section."

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Health Unit Assistant is a half-time position. The person in this position provides support to the Health Unit by performing a variety of duties necessary to provide continuing and optimum health care to the Embassy community. The main responsibility is to assist the nurses and nurse practitioner in quality day-to-day service and administration of the Health Care Unit. This includes keeping medical supplies ordered, filing of paperwork, assisting in keeping information and immunization paperwork up to date. The Health Assistant works under the supervision and direction of the Embassy Nurse Practitioner.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education required: Two years of full time post secondary study at college or university in either Nursing, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Public Administration, Development Studies, Secretarial Studies, Office Management, social work and social administration, law, ethics and development, finance, public administration, or education, is required.
2. Work Experience: Two years of work experience in caring for people, counseling, or office management in a medical environment is required.
3. Language Requirement: Level IV spoken and written English is required.
4. Knowledge: Good working knowledge of clinical practice and medical terminology is required.
5. Skills and Abilities: Good communication and service-oriented interpersonal skills are required. Ability to deal tactfully and politely with patients. Must be discreet and respond appropriately in a medical emergency situation. Must have good working knowledge of personal computers, Word for Windows, Excel and Outlook.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.

4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
