Undergraduate Degree and Diploma Courses at Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST)

1.1 DIRECT ENTRY

a) Bachelor of Science with Education: (Course Duration: 3 years)

At least 2 Principal Passes in Mathematics and Physics or Biology and Chemistry

b) Bachelor of Computer Science (Course Duration: 3 years)

At least 2 Principal Passes one of which MUST be in Mathematics and the other in any of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry and Economics.

c) Bachelor of Development Studies (Course Duration: 3 years)

Should have obtained a credit in English at Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) level and at least 2 Principal Passes one of which must be in Economics.

d) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Course Duration: 5 years)

At least 2 Principal Passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a Subsidiary Pass in either Physics or Mathematics.

e) Bachelor of Pharmacy (Course Duration: 4 years)

Admission requirements same as (d) above.

f) Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Course Duration: 4 years)

Admission requirements same as (d) above.

g) Bachelor of Nursing Science (Course Duration: 4 years)

Admission requirements same as in (d) above

h) Bachelor of Information Technology (Course duration: 3 years)

A credit in Mathematics at 'O' level (UCE)


At least 2 principal Passes in any 'A' level subjects

i) Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (Course Duration: 4 years)

Two advanced level passes in Mathematics and Physics and at least a subsidiary pass in Chemistry or Economics

j) Bachelor of Business Administration ( Course Duration: 3 years)

At least 2 prinicipal passes either in Economics or Mathematics in UACE and a credit in Mathematics at UCE

OR

Holds UDBS or ODBS or HFM Diploma recognised by the University or completed at least level one of CPA, ACCA or CIMA

k) Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Duration: 2 years)

An Advanced Certificate of Education or its equivalent.

With a Principal Pass in Biology, Chemistry or Physics

And a pass in Mathematics obtained from Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.

OR

A Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology with at least a credit pass or its equivalent from a recognized institution plus two years experience.

l) Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology (Duration: 1 year)

A credit in two science subjects i.e. Chemistry and Biology or Physics.

A pass in Mathematics and English.



1.2 COMPLETION PROGRAMMES

a) Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS) Completion Program (Duration: 2 years)

Should;

Be Registered as either Nurses or Midwives or Comprehensive Nurses or Psychiatric Nurses or Paediatric Nurses.


Be registered or eligible for registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.


Have been in clinical practice for at least two years after full registration.


Candidates must submit portfolio addressing their achievements of prior learning. This will be used in the selection process for admission.


Sit and pass an entrance examination in Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology.
Sit for an oral examination (those who pass written examinations)

b) Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) Completion Program (Duration: 2 years)

Should;

Be a holder of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised institution.


Must be registered with Allied Health Professionals Council and must have worked for at least two (2) years as Health Laboratory Professional.


Submit two reference reports one from current employer (s) and the other from the institution where the Diploma training was done.


The applicants who meet the above criteria will be required to sit for an entrance examination consisting of three written papers in (1) Microbiology, (2) Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistryand Histopathology, (3) Haematology, Blood Transfusion which must be passed individually.

c) Diploma in Counselling (Duration: 2 years)

Should;

Should have obtained 6 credits at the same sitting in the Uganda Certificate of Education

Or at least two principal level passes in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent


Or be registered Nurses/Midwives


Or holders of Diploma from a recognized Paramedical School


All applicants are required to be working with an institution or NGO where Counselling is part of their work and must have held that position for at least two years.
