Construction Specialist Vacancy in Uganda at Habitat for Humanity

Job Title: Construction specialist
Reports to: National Director

Purpose of the Position
The Construction Specialist ensures that all CTA (Construction Technical Assistance) and HSS (Housing Support Services) are provided to clients. The products and services should promote and lead to the low income households having better access to simple, decent and affordable and affordable housing.

Key Functions of the position:
• Assess the Suitability of the Housing Intervention, including security of land (tenure), suitability of land (soil, position, etc), stability and strength of structure to accommodate intended construction intervention, and appropriateness of intended intervention regulations, environmental concerns, local cultural norms and other standards
• Costing: A short intervention description for simple construction activities, or a design and description for more complicated activities, a BOQ-bill of quantities, and a comparison of cost of intervention to the amount f loan size the client has requested and qualifies for
• Quality Advice and Monitoring: the construction specialist provides advice to clients/ homeowners how to effectively carry out the construction intervention (including the choice of materials, building techniques, etc.

Key Qualifications and Skills for the Position:
• Undergraduate degree in construction, civil engineering, architectural and other relevant qualifications.
• At least 3 years experience in construction management
• Experience in non-profit work/NGO
• Ability to take initiative and leadership in developing construction technical solutions
