Job Description

Uganda Securities Exchange Limited (USE), a financial institution that deals with the buying and selling of securities in the capital markets industry is looking for a qualified, dynamic and self-motivated person to the position of Information Systems Officer. Reporting to the Head, Information Systems, the job holder will perform the following duties;

Duties and responsibilities:

Administration of all USE databases to ensure the most efficient performance of database applications (Reviewing, monitoring, tuning, maintaining and upgrading).

Administration of business application software and underlying operating systems.

Perform Database and file system backups.

Review, monitor and maintain computer networking components and network infrastructure to ensure the most efficient performance of the network.

Generate technical reports i.e. system health checks, performance reports etc.

Carry out installation and testing of hardware and software components in a LAN and WAN.

Participate in design, development and maintenance of computer programs and user applications that meet the Exchange’s requirement.

Provide support to network and application users, specifically the SCD, ATS and office tools.

Participate in the formulation, implementation and reviewing of security policies and procedures.

Documenting changes to servers, database structure, network structure and security procedures.

Perform general housekeeping of Windows, Solaris, Linux servers, Cisco network equipment and desktops (routine maintenance).

Assist in the documentation of standards and procedures used in the specifications and purchasing of computer technology.

Carry out research and development initiatives of the department.


Qualifications and Experience

Ideal Profile of an Applicant:

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or related discipline from a recognized institution.

Have at least 2 years of working experience in a similar position with a reputable organization.

Ability to manage relational database systems specifically Oracle and trouble shoot network operating systems e.g Windows, Unix, Linux and Cisco.

Knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and systems security.

Experience in financial markets is added advantage.

High level of integrity and professionalism

Be an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills and demonstration of creativity and innovativeness.
