Statistician Job at Rakai Health Sciences Program in Uganda

Job Title:
STATISTICIAN

Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical service delivery. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute – Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill a vacant position based at RAKAI HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM- Kalisizo, Rakai district as indicated below;

STATISTICIAN (1 position)

The Statistician will have the primary responsibility for constructing data files for analysis/modeling, performing statistical analysis, and preparing tables and figures to present the results.

    S/he will work closely with the Principal Investigators, and Study Coordinators.
    Successful performance in this role will be evidenced by meeting program milestones, and maintaining productive relationships with all partners and stakeholders.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

    Construct data files for analysis.
    Conduct statistical analysis of data using STATA and SPSS
    Technically interpret results of statistical analysis.
    Skillfully present study information for both oral and written formats
    Work with the Data team to support the planning, development of data collection tools, protocol development, including sample size/ power calculations), analysis plan preparation and review, data quality reviews, review of tables and figures.
    Collaborate with the principal investigators and Study Coordinators to complete joint scientific reports and overviews, including review of such reports to ensure accuracy and clarity.
    Collaborate on training and mentoring about data analysis among the data team as appropriate.
    Collaborate with Data Managers to test the validity of the data and ensure accuracy and integrity of data collection processes

Requirement:

    Masters degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Economics or other field with emphasis on quantitative analysis
    A minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a statistician
    A minimum of 2 years experience in a research environment
    Expertise in statistical methods and interpretation
    Excellent computer skills including statistical analysis packages (Stata, SAS, SPSS), databases, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, email
    Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills
    Excellent writing, analytical and oral presentation skills
    Understanding of management information systems in the health sector
    Excellent communication and organizational skills
    Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals and teams
    Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast paced environment and with a unique attention to detail.

    Pleasant, social, flexible, with good interpersonal skills and a spirit of team building/work, Self-motivated, able to work under minimum supervision and well organized, Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, Fluent in both English and Luganda languages., Able and willing to work and reside in the rural setting of Kalisizo -Rakai District
