POSITION TITLE:         WAE Registered Nurse; FP-6; FSN-8
POSITION LOCATION: Chancery
HOURS OF WORK: Position will work as needed, maximum 6-8 weeks/year.

 The American Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Registered Nurse in the Health Unit Section.  Position is temporary not to exceed one year (WAE).

Note:  All applicants who are not family members of USG employees officially assigned to post and under Chief of Mission authority must be residing in country and have the required work and/or residency permits to be eligible for consideration.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Provides routine and preventive health care to the American community including treatment of common illnesses and injuries with accepted professional standards and on call duty. The position reports directly the FSHP.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. Education required:  Degree from a professional nursing school and in possession of a current and unrestricted Registered Nursing license from the U.S. or Western European equivalent is required.
 2. Prior Work Experience: At least two years of occupational health experience, with at least one year being with a Western primary health care facility is required.   Previous teaching with at least three of the following health promotion activities is required: smoking cessation, weight reduction, well child anticipatory guidance; emergency first aid; prenatal classes; stress management and relaxation and HIV prevention is required.
3.  Language Requirement: Level IV (fluent - written and spoken) English ability is required.
4.   Knowledge: Current training or working knowledge in emergency preparedness is required.
5.   Skills:  Demonstrated skill and ability to administer adult and paediatric immunisation programs according to current CDC standards, and ability to provide travel medicine recommendations and health precautions are required. Must be able to perform basic word processing on computer.

SELECTION PROCESS
After an initial application screening, applicants will be invited for oral interviews.  The selected candidate must pass pre-employment security investigations before beginning work.  The initial appointment period is one year, subject to renewal.

Normally, candidates for employment are hired at the first step of the designated pay grade.  In some instances, candidates may be hired at a higher step when exceptional qualifications or previous governmental service and pay level so warrant.  The Human Resources Officer will make the decision with the concurrence of the employing section.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1.  Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2.  Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.  Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.

4.  Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

5.  Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
