Job Title: Title: Partnerships and Communities Officer
Location: Project Implementation Unit-Kampala
Reports to: Tree Plant Sub-Component Manager (TPSC)

Under direct supervision-of the Tree Planting Sub-Component Manager (TPSC), the Partnerships and Communities Officer will provide technical support and advice on project activities and tasks to be executed at district and sub-county levels with respect to the implementation of Tree Planting Sub-Component

He/ She will be a subject matter specialist mandated to provide direction and guidance to activities of sub-county Forest Technical Officers
Principal Duties end Responsibilities:
•Advise the SFTO on the Integration of community tree planting into local government planting and budgeting
•Advise SFTO on the preparation of sensitization material that inform district and sub county technical staff, opinion leaders, politician’s farmers groups and the general public of he benefits from forests and the planted trees.
•Advise on the delivery of information for increasing awareness on the potential of forestry to improve livelihoods
•Advise SFTO on the preparation of sensitization materials covering the National Forest Policy, National Forest Plan, and the planting Act 2003 and the benefits from trees and forests.
•Advise on the Identification of (and use priorities and match the preferred tree species to planting sites In light of the priorities of local communi¬ties and individual households. •Guide SFTO on the identification of incentives that enhance community investment and participation in forest plantation programmes.

•Promote the involvement of the vulnerable and marginalized groups e.g. the disabled, youths HIV positive people and the landless.
•Advise on the integration of gender concerns and other cross cutting-issues into tree planting activities
• Train SFTO in carrying out the participatory market surveys.
• Advise SFTO on the development of MOUs between private land owners and the districts for establishment of tree stands.
• Guide SFTO on the preparation of work plans for the TPSC activities at sub-county level and Tree Seed Stands.
• Guide SFTO in the development of farmer groups and communities to enhance their capacities in leadership, gender concerns, organization development, conflict resolution, record keeping and basic accounting

Person Specifications:
• Minimum of a B.Sc. in socio-economics/ natural resources management or related disciplines from a recognized university.
• A Masters Degree in natural resources management will be an added advantage
Technical Experience
• Experience in guiding communities in imple¬mentation of tree planting projects or sustainable forest resource management
• Experience in capacity building for improved natural resource management.
• Experience in sensitizing the private sector/ communities in using natural resources to combat poverty and improve livelihoods.
• Knowledge of participatory tools to enhance the mobilization of the private sector in social development,
• Knowledge of forestry conservation, forestry extension services and participatory tree-planting approaches at both theoretical and practical levels,

General Qualifications:
• Experience of working in output-based assignments is required.
• Proven co-coordinating, networking and multidisciplinary team work skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent report writing skills
• Proficiency in the use of computer applications/software programs.
