Overall Purpose:
To transport staff members to designated locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Undertake routine and preventive maintenance of motor vehicle by checking and topping-up the level of petrol, oil, water, battery electrodes and tyre pressure before operating the vehicle,
• Regularly clean and polish the vehicle, change tyres as well as making minor repairs or adjustments,
• Drive motor vehicle (car and van) to transport directors, staff, clients and others to designated locations in buying goods, supplies and consumer items,
• Load and offload baggage, goods and other material supplies with due regard to the safety of other people.
• Maintain records of the motor vehicle's daily activity showing journey, mileage, petrol, oil and signature of authorizing officer to account for all the journeys made.
• Regulate the radio, heat, light, and ventilation system for passenger comfort.
• Observe traffic and safety precautions in order to prevent accidents and to avoid traffic violations, in addition, undertake first aid in case of injuries.
• Report motor vehicle accident to the traffic police and the Maintenance Officer, obtaining police regulations.
• Requisition for petrol, lubricants and spare parts and maintain a record account for the same. • Take the motor vehicle for major service or repairs in accordance to planned preventive maintenance schedule or insurance accident report.
• Assist in performing miscellaneous tasks such as photocopying documents and cleaning the compound when not driving.


Minimum Qualifications:
• Driving Permit without any endorsements
• Uganda Certificate of Education ("0" Level) with a pass in English Language
• Five (5) years relevant experience driving cars and vans with a reputable organization or institution with a reputable organization or institution.

Key Competencies:
• Ability to follow detailed oral and written
• Must demonstrate 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without corrective lenses, and have a 70 degree field of vision in each eye and not be colour blind.
• Capable of perceiving a forced whisper in the better ear at not less than five feet with or without the use of hearing aid.
• Ability to interpret and follow operating manuals
• Knowledge of routes in both urban and rural areas.
• Ability to interpret road maps and rough hand drawn sketches
• Ability to interpret and comply with safety codes, traffic rules, regulations, and safe operating practices
• Ability to perform safety inspections, recognize and report mechanical problems, perform preventive maintenance check (oil, and all fluid levels, tire pressure) etc,
• Ability to operate vehicles in inclement and severe weather conditions, in mountainous areas or on rough steep terrain and loose surfaces such as sand, gravel or mud,
• Ability to lift and load/offload heavy goods and demonstrate complete knowledge of materials transported and their characteristics in order to deliver material safely to job location taking into account weight restrictions
• Ability to interpret all vouchers, bill of laden, invoices to insure proper handling, receiving and distribution of supplies and materials transported
• Ability to meet time schedules and deadlines and complete tasks without jeopardizing safety or integrity of work.
• Ability to operate vehicles at night and at times in reduced visibility from heavy and blowing rain.
• Ability to maneuver vehicle in tight spaces, judging distance in congested and confined positions.
