UGANDA WILDLIFE AUTHORITY (UWA) JOBS - Assistant Warden Oil Monitoring

Job Title: Assistant Warden Oil Monitoring
Location: Field Based
Reports: Conservation Area Manager
Salary Scale: UWA07
Contract duration: Four (4) years (Renewable)

Specific tasks:
1. To study, participate and review Environmental Impact statements and raise issues of concerns that the statements do not adequately address.
2. Study and evaluate environmental audit reports for oil companies operating within wildlife protected area
3. Monitor and evaluate on a daily basis the compliance of the oil companies in line with NEMA approved conditions, UWA guidelines for oil exploration the Environmental Management Plan, petroleum exploration and production department(PEPD) , geological survey and mines department (GSMD) among others, for Restoration and decommissioning Plans
4. Identify and investigate any other unanticipated concerns or negative impacts that might emerge.
5. Developing regulations to guide oil developments within wildlife protected areas.
6. Participate in the national programs to develop tools (e.g. Sensitivity atlas, Strategic Environment Assessment) for environmental management
7. Advise on strategies to address potential and emerging environmental issues and challenges on wildlife protected areas.
8. Contribute to national debates and engagements on oil development and conservation and propose improvement to the policies and guidelines regarding petroleum and mining operations in protected areas.
9. Participate in the preparation of quarterly and annual plans, budgets and reports for UWA Planning Unit.
10. Attend scheduled meeting, seminars and workshops related to petroleum and oil activities or any other.
11. Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Academic and professional qualifications:

A bachelor's (Hon's) Degree in petroleum Geology or Geology or Geology with Chemistry. Knowledge of petroleum operations, knowledge of depositional environments in a rift valley setting in aspects of structural geology and sedimentlogy is required. Advanced degree in Environmental management or Wildlife management, Certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment and or Environmental Audit Knowledge and understanding of Protected Areas and oil related issues is an added advantage
Working experience: 02 years and above experience in the related field
Required age: 25-45 years
