Position Objective:
Water For People has received large grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UN HABITAT to develop and test sustainable business models and innovations to expand sanitation coverage in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The four-year BMGF grant aims to achieve sustainable excreta management through catalyzing sanitation businesses and supporting the development of approaches that can be taken to scale without the need for external grant funding. The project will develop and document a series of business landscaping and market analysis studies that enable replication in other settings, and the testing of innovative sanitation technical solutions, which overcome existing constraints and improve potential for commercially viable private sector organizations. This grant aims to result in a pool of businesses that have invested in the sanitation sector. The UN HABITAT grants will support testing of sanitation innovations in various countries. Water For People has committed to creating compelling visual alternatives to written reports (maps, videos, etc). This position will have a key role in leading the organization along that path and creating best practices for creative, impactful reporting.
Based in Kampala, Uganda, this position will support the Project Operations Manager in coordinating all sustainable sanitation grant activities across several countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Essential Job Functions and Duties:
* Assists Project Operations Manager with overall grant coordination and donor communication.
* Responsible for putting together all the information needed to create donor-required reports, and creating the first draft (whether video, slide show, recording, or other).
* Coordinate directly with BMGF and UN HABITAT on issues related to the administration of the grants, ensuring appropriate reporting formats and timetable are followed.
* Responsible for overall compliance (tracking grant expenditures and managing grant budget, ensuring all grant requirements are being met).
* Liaising with project staff in other locations to elicit up to date information regarding progress, and learning.
* Serves as project librarian/information manager, supporting infrastructure needed for collaboration across offices and building skills of colleagues to fulfill their roles as creative communicators, and sharers of learning.
* Produces summary reports on grant activities to share externally (in collaboration with Program Analyst, Methodologies and Project Operations Manager).

Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
1. Demonstrated success in managing a complex, multi-country grant, including experience with managing / revising budgets.
2. Talent in communicating in impactful and creative ways with diverse and international constituents.
3. Understanding of what is required when using international grant funds, in terms of effectiveness and accountability. Experience using project management software.
4. Excellent verbal/written communications and presentation skills. Experience with developing innovative reporting and communication tools, especially non-written.
5. Good analytical skills and the ability to identify potential issues that need to surfaced to and/or renegotiated with the donor(s).
6. Experience of promoting knowledge sharing an advantage.
7. Knowledge of the international development and/or the sanitation sector is preferable but not essential.
Education or Formal Training
A bachelor degree in a relevant subject is preferred. The relevance of your actual educational qualifications to this program should be indicated in your application.
Experience
1. At least five years directly related experience is preferred.
2. Experience working and negotiating in a developing country context.

4. Project and budget management software, not limited to Excel.
Working Environment/Physical Activities
1. Based in Water For People's Office in Kampala, Uganda. Office environment.
2. Ability to travel regularly domestically and internationally as needed, often to remote field locations.
