Job Title: Project Field Manager (1)
This key position will support a complex project that provides training and technical assistance in a range of subject areas, in multiple districts (including those that are remote and hard-to-reach).
The Project Field Manager must have excellent management skills and the ability to manage a complex range of activities and demands and at the same time must participate in the delivery of technical training, technical assistance, support supervision and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Taking direct responsibility for the planning and implementation of district and facility-based training and technical assistance in a diverse range of subject areas
Ensuring that all project field-based training and technical assistance runs smoothly, according to planned timelines, and is of excellent quality
Serving as the primary contact for the funder, and negotiating project work plans (and potentially project budgets) with the funder
Ensuring that all project deliverables are achieved and that obligations have been met with regard to the funder’s financial, operational and reporting requirements
Actively engaging in the process of generating additional financial support for project activities, beyond what the original funder has provided
Responsibility for continually improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of field-based project activities; continually developing mechanisms to reduce cost and increase quality of project approaches being used
Active involvement in delivery of project training and technical assistance activities
Taking a leading role in communication and coordination with a range of stakeholders
including government, funding agencies, and other implementing partners
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Technical:
Medical doctor with a post graduate qualification in internal medicine, public health or epidemiology
Hands on experience related to clinical care, capacity building in health service delivery, and monitoring and evaluation
Extensive knowledge and experience related to malaria and HIV (including knowledge of the laboratory-related aspects) is essential; knowledge and experience with TB, reproductive health and health systems strengthening is an added advantage
Excellent general clinical skills
Basic understanding of a range of capacity building methodologies; some previous experience in adult education is essential
Experience in delivering lectures in a classroom setting as well as interventions focused on support supervision and mentoring
Leadership and Management Skills:
Outstanding project management skills; more than 3 years of experience managing implementation of complex projects is essential
Excellent people management skills
At least two years of financial management experience (can be in the context of general project management experience)
Well developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
Experience with monitoring and evaluation around training and technical assistance
General:
Proficient computer skills including the use of Word,
Excel and Power Point
Experience working in rural areas, and the ability to travel between 25-50% time to support project activities
