Job Title: Director - Peace, Justice and Governance
Number of Vacancies: One (1)
Reports to: Secretary General
Responsible for: Manager- Peace Institute and Manager - Justice & Governance
Duty Station: Kampala with frequent travel to program implementing Faith Based Organizations (FBOs).
Job Purpose:
To coordinate, provide technical support, manage the programme Team and contribute to developing thematic Issues in IRCU in line with the IRCU Strategy and other IRCU policies; and link the organization with other internal and external stakeholders.
Key Result Areas:
1. Initiate, support and facilitate the directorate and partner teams in program development of key themes in line with the IRCU strategy, policies and national development policies
2. Strategize for the Directorate, set objectives for Managers, provide professional guidance and direction to the teams, manage, supervise and appraise staff in line with organizational policies and standards
3. Build the capacity of the teams and partners to engage in advocacy for Peace, Justice and Governance and participate in other advocacy work in line with the strategic objectives of IRCU
4. Maintain the quality of programs in the directorate by Monitoring, Reviewing and Evaluating them against indicators identified in the IRCU strategy, plans and policies of the organization.
5. Identify internal and external fora and opportunities for networking, sharing the IRCU program experiences and learning as required by the IRCU philosophy, and build mechanisms for incorporating such experiences and lessons in all the directorate publications.
6. Contribute to IRCU-level policy making corporate interests and functions in line with organizational strategies and policies
7. Mobilize resources required to implement the IRCU Peace, Justice and Governance program plans and innovative projects designed to realize the strategic objectives of the IRCU, manage such resources and make financial reports following IRCU and donor guidelines.
8. Maintain, monitor and control communication between IRCU and stakeholders in line with the organizational communication strategy.
Qualifications and Experience
* A masters’ degree in Peace, Conflict Studies, Human rights & Good governance, Law, International relations, or any social sciences. PHD in any social sciences or related field shall be of added advantage
* Additional trainings in Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, Public Speaking and International policies on Peace, Justice and Governance.
* A minimum of six years’ proven experience at senior or managerial level in a related field
Person Specifications
Experience in Planning and programme implementation in NGOs.
• Strong advocacy, lobbying and networking skills.
• Good organizational, attention to detail and coordination skills; ability to work calmly under the stress of conflicting deadlines and assignments.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise good judgment and maintain complete confidentiality.
• Flexible in approach and receptive to new ideas and ways of working
• Knowledge of participatory rural approaches
• Capacity building and training skills.
• Microsoft Office applications experience a definite plus (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher)
• Must be able and willing to travel
• Ability to be a self-starter and work on own initiative, but also work closely with others.
• Ability to impart knowledge and encourage others; prepare and deliver effective reports/presentations in one to one
• Ability to manage emergencies.
• Strong governance and leadership skills.
