Job Title: Associate Lecturer (1 post)

JOB PURPOSE:
The overall purpose of this post is to provide palliative care training to students on the diploma, degree and short courses in palliative care. The post holder is also expected to coach, mentor and supervise students on training programme at the different levels.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Training material development
Participates in developing quality low-cost educational materials (particularly instructional materials.
Participates in review and editing of training materials and modules.
Training & Education:
Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of training courses assigned to him/her.
Participate sin follow up, coaching and mentoring of trainees attending courses
Supports and supervises the students in developing research/audit proposals and implementing research/audit projects
Participates in setting assignments and examinations for students on the training program.
Participates in marking of assignments and examinations.
Participates in preparation of articles for HAU newsletters and relevant reports.
Advocacy/Research and Knowledge sharing:
Participates in palliative care advocacy activities through organizing, implementation and where necessary representing Hospice in activities of stakeholder organizations.
Participates in operational research, education program reviews and evaluation activities. Participate in identification and documentation of best practices.
Administration:
Prepares both narrative and financial reports related to activities entrusted to her
Participates in preparation of work plan and budgets for the education department.
Participates in departmental meetings and when requested represent Hospice training and education department in stakeholders meetings.
Participates in planning and organization of Hospice and palliative care activities.

Demonstrates knowledge of the subject area.
Develops teaching instructional materials as per PC standards.
Develops lesson plans to support proper instruction.
Demonstrates effective teaching using a variety of strategies.
Assesses student performance as per HAU set standards
Achieves academic performance results according to the requirements as set by HAU.
Demonstrates knowledge of the relationship among instructional planning, communications and classroom management.
Demonstrates through mutual trust and respect a positive, caring attitude towards all.
Submits accurate reports in a timely manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ideal: Specialist in palliative care with degree in medicine or nursing and preferably post graduate degree in palliative care or education. A Diploma in Palliative Care, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Clinical Officers course. At least 2 years teaching experience in a recognized health institution with a focus on HIV/AIDS and or Cancer. At least 3 years in developing curricula and course materials including experience in low cost educational material development. Experience in adult learning methodology, experience in research/audit.
