The Uganda Prisons Service has received support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a health survey among prisoners and prisons staff in over 50 prisons units across the country. This project is being implemented by the Health Service Division of Uganda Prisons Service. In order to achieve the above objective, the Uganda Prisons Service now seeks to recruit suitably qualified, experienced and competent Ugandans to fill the following vacant posts:
POST/TITLE: COUNSELOR/INTERVIEWER (9 Posts)
REPORTS TO: SURVEY COORDINATOR
Purpose of the Job:
Overall responsibility for recruiting and screening potential participants, providing information about the survey and completing informed consent forms for eligible participants and reporting on the data collection exercise. The successful candidate should be ready to travel and stay up- country for the period the survey will be conducted. Position Responsibilities:
Guides survey participants and conducts interviews. Conducts pre-test and post- test HIV counseling.
Ensures that all survey forms are completed correctly and ready for transfer and that data entry progresses smoothly.
Facilitates group information sessions to help participants understand the purpose of the survey.
Schedules, tracks and follows-up with study participants selected to participate.
Provides support and back-up coverage to other survey staff.
Communicates frequently with the Survey Coordinator about daily operations.
Carries out any other duties assigned by the Survey Coordinator
Requirement:
A Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration, Social Administration or other related qualifications from recognized university or Institution.
At least a minimum of one (1) year experience as an HIV/ AIDS counselor will be an added advantage.
Proven professional experience or technical background in research projects will be an added advantage.
Good knowledge of computer packages such as Microsoft Access, Word and Excel.
Fluent in 2 or more of the following Ugandan language (Luganda, Runyakitara, Lugbara, Swahiii, Luo and Ateso).
Preferred:
Certificate in counseling preferably in HIV/AIDS counseling.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a team. Planning, organizing and managing a complex and busy workload.
A Results-orientation and ability to work under minimum supervision
