Job Title: SURVEY COORDINATOR

Uganda Prisons Service, Uganda

The Uganda Prisons Service has received support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a health survey among prisoners and prisons staff in over 50 prisons units across the country. This project is being implemented by the Health Service Division of Uganda Prisons Service. In order to achieve the above objective, the Uganda Prisons Service now seeks to recruit suitably qualified, experienced and competent Ugandans to fill the following vacant posts:

POST/TITLE: SURVEY COORDINATOR (1) REPORTS TO: AG. ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER HEALTH RESPONSIBLE FOR: DATA ASSISTANTS, LABORATORY. PERSONNEL. COUNSELOR/INTERVIEWER

Purpose of the Job:

To provide overall leadership, supervision, administrative and technical support to the survey team and coordinate daily data collection activities. The successful candidate should be ready to travel and stay up-country for the period the survey will be conducted.

Position Responsibilities:

    Coordinate and participate in activities of the health survey progamme.
    Ensure that survey protocol standard operating procedures are followed exactly, including ensuring confidentiality and data quality and integrity.
    Provide oversight of data collection and carry out data quality checks with Data Manager.
    Liaise with Uganda Prisons Services to ensure that Prisons procedures are followed on site.
    Provide supervision and support to the survey team and handle any issues that arise while in the field.
    Work closely during the duration of the survey with the survey investigators.

Requirement:

    An Advanced Degree in Medical, Public Health or Nursing Sciences from a recognized University or Institution.
    At least 1 year's practical experience in research and/or survey coordination.
    Familiarity with human subjects' ethics procedures.
    A very good understanding of basic epidemiology concepts.
    Experience in managing relationships with various stakeholders.
    Excellent verbal and written English.

Preferred:

    Experience with database management.
    Excellent analytical and research skills.
    Prior management experience particularly with large surveys.
    Experience in working with vulnerable populations.
    Creativity, results-orientation and ability to work under minimum supervision.
    Information and communication technology skills.
    Ability to manage an organizational environment.
    Fluent in 2 or more of the following Ugandan languages (Luganda, Runyakitara, Lugbara, Swahili, Luo and Ateso).
