The Uganda Prisons Service has received support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a health survey among prisoners and prisons staff in over 50 prisons units across the country. This project is being implemented by the Health Service Division of Uganda Prisons Service. In order to achieve the above objective, the Uganda Prisons Service now seeks to recruit suitably qualified, experienced and competent Ugandans to fill the following vacant posts:
POST TITLE: DATA ASSISTANT (2) REPORTS TO: SURVEY COORDINATOR RESPONSIBLE FOR: COUNSELOR/INTERVIEWER
Purpose of the Job: Overall responsibility for the maintenance and support of the survey team data management systems
Position Responsibilities:
Supports the study interview team in all the data management aspects of the survey in the field, including preparing all computers and forms for data collection on a daily basis.
Ensures that data is accurately entered into the study databases and that it is backed up and transferred daily to a central location.
Performs validity checks, collating the data and transferring it from the field to Uganda Prisons Service project office.
Participates in sampling exercises for the survey.
Assists survey team with training and support of electronic data entry and paper form completion as necessary.
Assists Survey Coordinator to develop routine survey data collection progress reports and disseminate them to the Project Secretariat and investigators.
Monitors data systems security and integrity and report any systems breach or other incidents to the Survey Coordinator.
Ensures strict adherence to quality assurance standards as indicated in the Standards Operations Procedures.
Conducts any other duties as assigned by the Survey Coordinator.
The successful candidate should be ready to travel and stay up-country for the period the survey will be conducted
Requirement:
An Honours Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Statistics from a recognized university or institution.
At least 1 year's practical experience or technical background in data entry management in research projects will be an added advantage
Excellent knowledge of computer packages in Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, SPSS and SQL.
Working experience of research database and computer assisted interviewing software is an added advantage.
Excellent analytical and data management skills.
Creativity and results-orientation and ability to work under minimum supervision.
Excellent oral and written English.
Good planning and organizational skills in managing complex and busy work load
