JOB TITLE: MANAGER – RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR – PLANNING, RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

DURATION: 3 YEARS CONTRACT (RENEWABLE)

Purpose of the Job:
To coordinate the IT Research and Innovation function in NITA-U and Nation-wide
in line with NITA-U’s Strategic Plan, the National Development Plan, the National
Science, Technology & Innovation Policy/Plan and other related Plans.

Key Results Area/Accountabilities
 Identify and engage all IT Research & Innovation Stakeholders and facilitate
the creation of a platform/forum for regular stakeholder engagement
(National IT Research & Innovation Network);
 Conduct and Spearhead research & Innovation in line with the NITA‐U’s
mandate and strategic plan;
 Establish software and hardware development centres of excellence;
 Coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive IT
Research & Innovation System in consultation with the key stakeholders;
 Plan and develop research project proposals (needs assessments, appraisals,
and pre‐project studies) in line with the authority’s strategic plan;
 Initiate, support, sustain, consolidate and operationalize the country’s IT
Research Agenda ;
 Provide technical assistance to the various Directorates in regard to research
support functions;
 Build research capacity for staff in collaboration with partners and
stakeholders according to the research business plans
 Facilitate the identification, collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination
IT related data as may be required in the IT Sector and Nationwide;
 Undertake supervision, guidance and appraisal of staff working under him/her;
 Participate in planning, organising and management of the Directorate


Qualifications
 A Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information
Technology, Information Systems, Statistics or their equivalent;
 A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,
Information Systems, Software Engineering or a closely related field is a
requirement;
 Professional/ Industry IT Certification such as ITIL, CCNA, CCNP, MCSE,
OCA, PMP etc. are an added advantage;
 Certification in Research Administration such as Certified Research
Administrator (CRA) is an added advantage.

Experience
 A minimum of 5 (five) years’ proven and demonstrable experience in IT Research and Innovation in a reputable Public or Private Organization, 3 (three) years of which should have been at Supervisory level;
 Evidence of having worked on Technology Transfer Projects.
