 Job title: Laboratory quality Assurance and Control Officer – Tororo Lab HUB
Location: HUB Laboratory Tororo.
Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor – Tororo laboratory HUB
Directly supervises: Laboratory technologists

Main Purpose of the Job
To administer laboratory services of Tororo district laboratory HUB while maintaining good clinical laboratory practices, quality program requirements and laboratory safety guidelines.

Key Outputs
• Quality control of Laboratory reagents and equipment maintained
• Laboratory investigations carried out
• Laboratory procedures and procedure manual to both facility laboratory and PHF laboratories managed
• QA/QC assessments conducted


Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Receive, evaluate the quality of specimens, registers samples, offers correct sample storage and process for testing
• Monitor development, roll out and operationalisation of HUB laboratory standards, procedures and guidelines in the delivery of laboratory services
• Operationalize disposal policies and procedures for chemicals and other hazardous wastes, that meet environmental health standards and also manage safety guidelines, the use of personal protective equipment and awareness of blood- borne pathogens
• Performs laboratory tests as assigned according to the current SOP’s and quality assurance requirements
• Maintain electronic and hard- copy inventory of all biological materials
• Conduct QA/QC assessments at HUB laboratory and also in districts of in the districts of Tororo, Manafwa and Jinja.
• Provides input as required for updating laboratory procedures and procedure manual to both facility laboratory and PHF laboratories
• Implement SLIMTA in participating laboratories of Tororo, Manafwa and Jinja as per the Uganda National Laboratory Policy
• Support TASO and MoH in training and problem solving as needed


PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Laboratory Quality Assurance and Control Officer
Academic Qualifications:
Diploma in Medical laboratory technology. A post graduate diploma in project management, Bachelor’s degree in any of the Biological sciences, GCLP and CLP training, registration with the AHPC and ability to manage trainings will be an added advantage.
Experience and Exposure:
More than three years of medical laboratory technology experience is required
Special Knowledge
• Ability to perform complete range of laboratory functions is required
• Laboratory diagnosis techniques
• Basic facts about HIV/AIDS
