Job title: Project Assistant, Hygiene and Sanitation
Position Overview:
The Hygiene and Sanitation Project Assistant will be responsible for mobilizing and coordinating community members to take part in hygiene and sanitation activities in villages where watershed projects are ongoing. The Hygiene and Sanitation activities fit into the broader Global Water Initiatives to increase the quantity and access of safe drinking water in targeted communities. The position holder will work closely with the existing structures at district, sub-county and village level as well as Global Water Initiatives partners in implementing the project activities. Position will be based in Lira/Otuke and report the Project Officer, WASH and IWRM.
Qualifications, Experience and Abilities required:
The suitable candidate will preferably have qualifications including but not limited to: a degree in sociology, environmental health, public health together with:
• At least 4 years experience in an NGO or similar organization, preferably with a community development role.
• Skills Communication: Speaking effectively
• Communication: Providing appropriate feedback
• Experience and commitment to working directly approaches
• Ability to read and write to a high standard in English.
• Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Proven ability to effectively motivate, and engage people
• Keen to learn and develop skills
• Willing to live and work in challenging rural
• Working knowledge of PHA and CHAST methodologies are essential
•Good local knowledge of the area
•Ability to enhance good interpersonal relationships, appreciation to build trust in the
• Ability to communicate in the Luo dialect will be an added advantage.
