Primary Duties and responsibilities:
• Working closely with the Zonal NAADS Coordinator and the Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI) Director, guide the setting up and management of Multi Stakeholder Innovation Platform for the Zone;
• Based on outputs of the stakeholder priority setting process and MSIP inputs, establish mechanisms for linkage to sources of technology and innovation, and maintain an inventory (database) of available/emerging technologies from the ZARDI and National Research System (NARS);
• Working in close consultation with District Production Officers (DPOs), coordinate the establishment of District Adaptive Research Support Teams (DARSTs), and ensure their capacity development needs are identified and met
• Working together with ZARDI scientists and DARSTs guide the generation of local content from on-farm adaptive trials;
• Facilitate lesson leaning and sharing of experiences in technology development a and uptake, and ensure integration of local content and best practice into service provision guidelines;
• Develop approaches, methods and strategies for development guidelines;
• Develop approaches, methods and strategies for development of model farmers and other channels as vehicles to catalyze and support technology uptake, promotion and up-scaling for the different categories of farmers
• Working in close consultation with ZARDI scientists develop mechanisms for, and undertake tracking performance of technologies and innovation to provide essential feed back to the ZARDI and other sources of innovation
• In consultation with ZARDI scientists and Sustainable Land Management (SLM) consultants develop approaches and practical guidelines to ensure integration and/or main streaming gender and natural resources management concerns into all aspects of technology development, promotion and up-scaling
• In consultation with relevant regulatory bodies/agencies, support the establishment of seed and breeder associations, and liaise with responsible MAAIF departments to ensure they are regulated for production of quality seed;
• Develop guidelines and content for training of farmer groups and/or associations in farmer based multiplication of planting and stocking material for both food security and commercialization.
• Function as the link between the different value chain actors (agro-input suppliers, processors and market actors), and in consultation with district production departments and umbrella bodies develop strategies for continuous training needs identification ensuring that they are met.
Qualification and experience:
• Post graduate degree in agricultural sciences, agricultural economics or natural sciences
• At least five years experience in adaptive research or extension but with supervisory responsibility over on-farm experimentation at the time of the advertisement.
• Good facilitation and communication skills
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rural development issues and poverty challenges
• Good computer skills in common word processing packages and spreadsheets
