5. GENDER MAINSTREAMING DIRECTORATE

Job title: Deputy Director (Teaching, Learning/ Research &Innovations)

Reports to: Director Gender Mainstreaming

Salary Scale: Makerere University M.4

Role: To provide leadership for the teaching and learning, research and innovation.

Qualifications: (i) Honours Bachelors Degree in Law, or Mass Communication, or Development Studies, or Education or Social Sciences from a recognized Institution/ University.

(ii) A Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines from a recognised Institution/ University: Gender Studies, Development Studies or Human Rights.

(iii) A Post graduate diploma in Project Planning and management would be an added advantage

Experience: A minimum of 3 (three) years experience in gender activism and engagement in research, production of publications, management of scholarships and engagement in resource mobilisation and networking in a large and reputable organisation/ Institution.

Key Result Areas:

1. Implement the resource Mobilisation Investment and sustainability Strategy for the Directorate.
2. Develop and implement the T&L and R&I Divisions’ Plans and Budgets
3. Manage the Process of Engendering the University Curricula
1. Manage Scholarships and follow up of students Curricula.
2. Manage the Production of Publications.
3. Developing strategies to promote women in leadership at Makerere University
4. Monitor and evaluate activities of the Division and produce narrative and financial reports
5. Build team, mentor, coach, access and appraise staff of the division.

(ii) Essential skills/competences:

• Knowledge of gender and development issues.
• Leadership and Management skills
• Strategic planning and operational management skills.
• Fundraising and proposal writing skills
• Good interpersonal, communication and Team building skills
• Mentoring and coaching skills
• Engendering the curricular and management of scholarships
• Research, documentation and policy analysis skills and training skills.
• Report writing and fundraising skills.

Age limit: Applicants should not exceed 50 years of age

Tenure of appointment: Permanent terms of service
