Brief description: DFID Uganda is seeking to recruit a dynamic, experienced and adaptable individual to join its country team.

Key tasks

Develop new programme in financial services.

Develop DFID’s position on petroleum, liaising with Government of Uganda officials, oil companies, and other development partners and manage DFID petroleum related work.

Support the delivery of wealth creation as set out in DFID Uganda’s new Operational Plan.

Support DFID’s CrossRoads programme in its work to encourage banks to provide financial services to road construction companies. Oversee DFID Uganda’s investment in TradeMark East Africa, by participating in the National Oversight Committees and working with Regional East African Growth Adviser to oversee annual reviews.

Work with DFID Uganda’s Regional Growth & Trade Adviser and Economist to ensure that the wealth creation programme produces results, generates evidence and is good value for money.

Respond to, and engage in, policy questions and discussion within DFID both locally and with Policy Division in London
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a Masters degree or equivalent level of academic and professional experience in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, development studies or related discipline

A strong background in the financial services sector

A good understanding of political economy issues, drivers of change, and able to successfully engage at a senior level with the private sector, national governments and civil society

Detailed knowledge of Uganda’s financial services sector

Ability to develop an understanding of the business of oil and gas extraction (prior knowledge is not expected)

Excellent communication skills
