Education Editor Job Vacancy at Daily Monitor

 Job Title:
Reporting to the Managing Editor – Daily Editions, the jobholder will have the following responsibilities,

 Reviewing own and other media’s coverage of education events to assess performance
 Assigning reporters, correspondents and photographers to cover education events
 Reviewing the performance of sub-editing with subs so as to strengthen the production process of news and assigning them pages
 Attending the editorial conference and using feedback to give direction
 Designing, laying out pages and placing education stories for editing
 Giving editing instructions and supervising Sub-Editors to ensure that the stories are professionally subbed to the highest quality and standards within set deadlines
 Supervising Sub-Editors efficient work flow to ensure that all pages’ deadlines are met
 Checking the edited copy and pictures to ensure that the editing meets journalistic ethics, editorial objectives, house style and avoids libel
 Going for assignments and writing articles on education
 Writing commentaries and editorials on education, editorials must be honest, factual, fair, complete and consistent with the editorial line of the paper as defined by the Group Editorial Policy
 Is responsible for collecting the necessary data for education contributors payments
 Seeking external contributions on education issues

Qualifications

The ideal candidates should have;

Academics – Basic University degree from a recognized University

Professional – Diploma in Journalism is an added advantage

Experience
4 to 5 years relevant work experience in the Media Industry.

Skills
Good report writing and analytical skills are an added advantage.
