PRIMARY HEALTH CARE OFFICER Job Vacancy

Job Title: PRIMARY HEALTH CARE OFFICER
Reports to:       Health Coordinator
Liaises with:   Project Officers, Finance Officer, Refugee Welfare Council, Clinical Officer, Sub County and Parish officials and other agencies in the area
Duty Station:  Kyangwali
Job Summary: Provide leadership and guidance in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Primary Health Care delivery in the project area. The position is also responsible for developing and implementing PCH capacity building interventions in the area of operation.

Duties & Responsibilities

    *
      Ensure collection of relevant health data, conduct analysis, and undertake an effective information utilization and its dissemination
    *
      Conduct relevant operational research and surveys in the area of operation to improve on service delivery in PHC interviews
    *
      Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
    *
      Develop and implement monthly and quarterly work plans, monitor their implementation and report
    *
      Ensure that s/he visits each health facility at least once a month to assess progress and offer advice or capacity building interventions where deemed necessary.
    *
      Develop, implement and monitor an integrated approach to primary health care intervention activities that links to improved access to adequate and safe water and sanitation facilities
    *
      Oversee the establishment of community health management committees to enhance community participation in the running of health facilities.
    *
      Capacity build community health committees to attain desired standards in PHC interventions
    *
      Monitor the effectiveness of AAH-I’s health facilities in the area of operation, recommending renovations if needed and the need for equipment and supplies of essential drugs, etc
    *
      Conduct regular EPI and sanitation coverage surveys.
    *
      Conduct operational research in high impact health interventions
    *
      Support government health department in disease surveillance and  investigate reported disease outbreaks
    *
      Represent AAH-I at District health coordination meetings and advise the country programme on the outcomes
    *
      Advocate for support to the health facilities e.g. lobby for modern equipment, staff training and better  provision of curative services
    *
      Design interventions that will improve maternal and child health services
    *
      Source and organize for distribution of insecticide treated nets to reduce malaria infections in children and pregnant women.
    *
      Mobilize, train and establish community health management committees to increase community participation in the running of health facilities
    *
      Supporting the government’s Health Department to develop and implement policies and guidelines
    *
      Conduct community health education including HIV/AIDS awareness, safe motherhood, hygiene and sanitation and nutritional education.
    *
      As a member of the senior management team, attend and contribute to the monthly programme meetings (PMT)
    *
      Any other relevant assignments that may be given by the immediate supervisor


Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

    *
      A Diploma in Primary Health Care, Clinical  Medicine , Counseling, Nursing or related qualification from a recognized institution
    *
      At least 2 years experience in similar position.
    *
      Excellent inter-personal and communication skills

·        A good command of both written and spoken English
·        Patient, understanding and of a pleasant character
·        Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office
·        Excellent Management skills
·        Ability to mobilize and influence different audiences and communities
·        Able to capacity build and develop others
