Job Title: Chief Manager, Legal Services
Reports: Company Secretary
Role: To provide, statutory and legal advice to the bank and render legal technical support to the line departments in accordance with the financial institutions regulatory frame work.
Key Result Areas:
1. Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of external advocates of the Bank in line with the set Service Level Agreements.
2. Coordinate and implement the annual training of the Bank's Operations Staff on legal issues in line with the Banks training calendar and identified legal training needs.
3. Plan and review divisional operating policies /procedures, monitor and report on compliance in line with the set standards.
4. Supervise execution contract documentation for legal transactions and provide legal advice on disputes arising there from in the Bank's best interest.
5. Conduct legal audits for monitoring branch compliance with credit security documentation standards and registration procedures
6. Liaise with government prosecutors to institute criminal proceeding were required and monitor progress for early resolution
7. Upon instruction represent the Bank in Courts of Law and other judicial or quasi-judicial fora in accordance with the law and Bank policy.
8. Manage the performance and development of staff in accordance with the HR guidelines and policies.
Job requirement
Suitable candidate for this post should have:
• An Honor's Degree in Law from a recognized University and a Diploma in Legal Practice
• Enrolled advocate with a valid practicing certificate
• Relevant post graduate or professional qualifications is added advantage
Required competences and experience:
• 5 years hands on experience at management level in a Financial Institution
• High degree of integrity and confidentiality
• Good communication and Interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage numerous deliverables in a timely and effective manner
• Excellent knowledge of Banking Practices
