Job Title: Writer

Salary: 400,000 during probation, 800,000 after Probation  (Negotiable depending on Experience and Expertise)

Job Purpose:
To seek out Interesting Stories and bring them to the public as quickly as possible. This covers a number of wide and varied topics including News, Relationships, Featured Stories, Educational and Entertainment.

Job Description

• selecting subject matter based on personal or public interest, or commissioned by a publisher or agent;
• developing the technical skills of writing and maintaining originality;
• using literary skills to develop themes and storylines, while making characters and plots believable;
• undertaking research, including plot-lines, places, themes and characters;
• verifying the factual content of written work;
• conducting interviews with people either face to face, over the telephone or by email;
• submitting material for publication in the required and expected format;
• exercising self-discipline and time management to organise writing in conjunction with developing financial management/self-employment skills;
• being prepared to rewrite and revise work (often several times) following feedback;

Qualifications
Should have a degree or Diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, or Literature
Experience in Writing is an added Advantage
Must have good knowledge of Microsoft Word

Skills and personal qualities

The Writer  must have:

• an inquiring mind
• excellent written English and a concise writing style
• high standards of accuracy
• the ability to produce good work under pressure
• a thick skin, to handle rejection
• persistence and stamina
• quick understanding - journalists often have to write with authority on unfamiliar subjects
• a knowledge of the law as it affects journalism.
• Must be computer literate with good typing speed
