Job Title: CROP ENTOMOLOGY TECHNICIAN

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Developing a field plan and preparing materials, measurement instruments and other supplies for undertaking field experiments
2. Participating in baseline surveys to determine needs and entomology constraints as well as establish the impact of technology adoption
3. Collecting data, specimens and samples at various experimental plots
4. Participate in developing and delivering education and training programmes to farmers and other stakeholders including students on visits and attachments
5. Participate in agricultural exhibitions and other programmes designed for dissemination of research findings and technology transfer.
6. Undertaking routine maintenance of instruments, equipment and facilities including installation and calibration
7. Providing input on the development of the annual budget, especially item and cost specifications
8. Requisition for laboratory materials and equipment according to approved budget
9. Conduct environmental monitoring and compliance activities for the protection of natural resources
10. Observing health and safety procedures and guidelines
11. Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results and preparing charts and graphs in order to support the documentation of research findings and results.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Ordinary Diploma in Agriculture. Two years’ relevant experience in crop Entomology.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent qualifications
2. Two years relevant experience in Entomology Related work gained from a reputable organization
Key Competencies
1. Knowledge of insect pests plants, their functions, interdependencies and interactions with each other and the environment including impact on agricultural production
2. Ability to listen, understand and communicate information on ideas presented through spoken words and in writing
3. Ability to control laboratory operations comprising equipment or systems
4. Proficiency in computer software applications and statistical packages
5. Ability to participate in multidisciplinary work teams
