Job Title: TRACTOR DRIVER

Salary Scale: UR 7

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Operating tractor and implements to plough and furrow agricultural land for precision planting of seed crops
2. Attaching tractor implements weighing up to 100 pounds, such as graders, plough, discs and backhoes.
3. Operating tractor and trailer to transport farm products, livestock and materials to specified locations, loading/offloading farm products, livestock and other material supplies with due regard to environmental safety
4. Undertaking routine and preventive maintenance of tractor by checking and topping up the level of fuel, oil water, battery electrodes and tyre pressure before operating the tractor
5. Inspecting the tractor oil, hydraulic lines and other components, some of which are located underneath
6. Regularly cleaning the tractor and its implements, changing tyres as well as making minor repairs or adjustments and calibrations
7. Calibrating agricultural implements such as chemical spray nozzles, operate plough and furrower and perform routine tractor maintenance according to specifications
8. Maintaining records of the tractors daily activity showing journey, mileage, fuel, oil and signature of authorizing officer to account for all the journeys made
9. Taking the tractor for major service or repairs in accordance to planned preventive maintenance schedule or insurance accident report

Qualifications and Experience

1. A valid tractor Driving Permit without any endorsements
2. Uganda Certificate of Education (O level) with a pass in English language
3. Two years relevant experience in operating tractors and attached implements

Key Competencies

1. Ability to interpret and follow operating manuals and maintenance manuals
2. Ability to perform safety inspections, recognize and report mechanical problems, perform preventive maintenance check (oil and all fluid levels, tyre pressure) etc.
3. Must demonstrate 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without corrective lenses, and have a 70 degree field of vision in each eye and not be color blind
4. Ability to operate vehicles in inclement and severe weather conditions, in mountainous areas or on rough steep terrain and loose surfaces such as sand, gravel or mud
5. Ability to participate in multidisciplinary work teams
6. Good communication and interpersonal skills

Employment Terms:

Successful candidates will be employed on four years’ contract renewal renewable on satisfactory performance.
