KNCV stimulates effective, efficient and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context through: policy development, technical assistance, advisory services, training programs, capacity building, as well as epidemiological and operational research.
In Uganda, KNGV is implementing TBCARE I, a 15 month USAID funded project. TBCAREI works in close collaboration with the National TB and Leprosy Program (NTLP). TBCAREI will support the NTLP and TB control in Kampala. KNCV is seeking to recruit the following staff:
Position title: Deputy Director Technical Services/Deputy Chief Of Party
Reports to: TB CARE I Country Director/Project Director/ Country Representative/ Chief of Party.
Main purpose of the post
The holder of this position will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the TB CARE I Project by ensuring technical oversight for project activities implemented in the country. S/he will be involved in TB CARE I work plan implementation and monitoring. The scope of technical assistance will focus on the four TB CARE I project technical areas; namely Universal access to TB care, Programmatic Management of Drug – resistant TB (PMDT), TB/HIV care and treatment and health systems strengthening. He or she will supervise all field- based activities for the TBCARE I Project in Uganda. S/he will keep track that the objectives of TB CARE I in Uganda are monitored and met.
Main duties
* Participate in project planning activities at all levels.
* Provide technical support to implementation of all project activities and supervise the field based technical officers.
* Liaise with the NTLP Manager and ACP Manger to support the National TB/HIV coordination meetings.
* In addition support STOP TB Partnership meetings in liaison with the TB program manager.
* Compile activity reports for trainings and workshops.
* Monitor implementation of activities with a focus on completion and quality.
* Participate in projects’ monitoring and evaluation activities, including field visits.
* Contribute to M&E reports to ensure technical soundness.
* Deputize the Country Director/Project Director/ Country Representative/ Chief of Party in his absence.
* Other duties as may be assigned by the Country Director/Project Director/ Country Representative/ Chief of Party.
Requirement:
Profile of expected competencies
* A medical doctor with postgraduate qualifications in public health or other related field
* Must possess technical expertise in TB control for about 5-10 years with experience in implementation of the Stop TB Strategy in Uganda. Specific orientation on DOTS, TB/HIV and PMDT programming and implementation will be an added advantage.
* Demonstrated experience in working with Ministry of Health and other officials from the public, private and NGO sector
* Conversant with TB technical support supervision, and other quality improvement approaches
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; as well as computer skills
* Minimum of two (2) years hands on experience preferably with USAID or other donor funded projects
