We are retained by Uganda Wildlife Authority to assist identify qualified, experienced and competent individuals of integrity to fill seven senior positions in its headquarters in Kampala.

UWA is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities. It was established in 1996 by the Wildlife Act Cap 200 of 2000.

Its mission is to conserve and sustainably manage the wildlife and protected areas in Uganda in partnership with the neighboring communities and other stakeholders for the benefit of the people of Uganda and the global community.

Our Client, an equal opportunity employer, is looking for high caliber, self-motivated and results oriented Ugandan professionals to fill the posts. Executive Director position is tenable for a period of five years; other positions are for a period of four years, renewable.

1. Executive Director

Reporting to the Board, the Executive Director should have strong leadership, resource mobilization, planning, communication and organizational skills; a passion for conserving Uganda’s wildlife resources. He/she will be the public face of Uganda Wildlife Authority, and should have the ability to build support for its mission with the general public and major stakeholders. Main duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Develop strategic plans to guide the authority in achieving its objectives;
  • Develop management plans for conservation areas or for species and classes of species of wildlife populations
  • Develop economic, efficient and costeffective internal management structures and processes
  • Prepare and present annual budget for Board approval; and prudently manage organization’s resources within budget guidelines according to current government and UWA financial regulations and procedures.
  • Create and implement fundraising programs in conjunction with Board and Staff with the aim of diversifying funding sources
  • Ensure that all programs of UWA conform with the applicable legislation
  • Oversee the financial, human resources, and administrative management of the organization.
  • Oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and ensure quality of programs, products and services
  • Ensure that assets are protected, adequately maintained and risks mitigated
  • Provide conducive work environment to ensure high level productivity
  • Ensure strong collaboration with similar organizations on various campaigns and issues of biodiversity conservation interest.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in natural or biological sciences or natural resource management.
  • Postgraduate qualification and training in tourism, business administration or Management would be an added advantage.
  • Training in project management with a reputable organization.
  • Experience working with board will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 10 years proven working experience in a natural resource management Institution at a senior management level.
  • Proven experience in planning, financial and human resource management, marketing and Public relations and fundraising
