Main Purposes of Post

Carry out the full range of administrative duties, services and other functions appropriate to the efficient and effective operation of a modern university library.


Person specification

Candidates should have, or be able to demonstrate:

*

A good Bachelors degree or equivalent professional qualification and preferably some good experience of working in a professional administrative environment.
*

Experience of library systems or an appropriate degree in Information systems. An understanding of higher education academic contexts and regulatory requirements.
*

Appropriate administrative experience.

*

Experience of customer-focussed service.
*

Experience of databases and management information systems.
*

Good interpersonal and communication skills.



Skills, Qualifications and Personal Requirements

*

Willing proactive worker.
*

Strong written and spoken English language skills.
*

Competency in standard ICT applications including word processing, spreadsheets, data bases and power point.
*

Commitment to quality customer care with the ability to engage effectively with students and other staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

*

Assist in the development and implementation of Library policies and procedures.
*

Organise and maintain administrative and filing systems
*

Liaise with academic staff to determine procurement requirements; prepare procurement proposals; and recommend priority purchases.
*

Operate the contact desk for staff and students.
*

Maintain proper security over library books, facilities and services.
*

Classify and catalogue new books.
*

Replace books on the shelves and monitor collections.
*

Prepare book weeding proposals.
*

Operate loan and reference systems as appropriate.
*

Maintain a friendly and supportive library environment.
*

Uphold and promote the university’s mission, vision and values.
*

Represent the head of Library when required.
*

Such other appropriate duties as may be allocated by the Head of Library.
