Job Title: GENDER JUSTICE – LEGAL OFFICER
JRP has received funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy – Ministry of Foreign Affairs to run a three‐year Gender Justice programme in northern Uganda under the theme, “Strengthening local‐level transitional justice mechanisms.” We seek an outstanding Legal Officer with a proven intuition to transitional justice and human rights work in northern Uganda. The job holder should be a flexible, open‐minded individual ready to pursue a career in transitional justice.
Key duties include:

Programme development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation

Coordinating and supporting activities of community conflict resolution structures in order to address the reconciliation needs of conflict‐affected women and girls

Identifying and building the capacity of survivor groups on issues of gender justice, leadership and reconciliation
Candidates must demonstrate practical skills in working with vulnerable women and men across northern, north‐eastern and West Nile regions of Uganda. We seek to recruit an individual who has an excellent grasp of ongoing policy developments at civil society and Government of Uganda levels. S/he will also serve as an in‐house legal advisor to JRP and should be in position to offer expertise towards gender‐responsive programmes across JRP departments. S/he will be required to possess a very strong research skill and should be willing to comment extensively on gender concerns across all divides.
A relevant Bachelor of Laws degree is a MUST, while an additional post‐graduate and Master’s degree in the field of Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, Peace and Genocide Studies, or Transitional Justice will be strongly considered.
