POSITION LOCATION:  Facility Maintenance Section (GSO Warehouse)
HOURS OF WORK:  Full time; 40 hours /week
 "The American Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Air-Conditioning Technician."
Note:  All applicants who are not family members of USG employees officially assigned to post and under Chief of Mission authority must be residing in country and have the required work and/or residency permits to be eligible for consideration.


BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
As working foreman directing two full journeyman mechanics, two multi trade technicians and one trades' helper engaged in performing maintenance and repair works on structures and associated equipment in office buildings, residential quarters, and other government owned or leased properties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1.  Education required:  Completion of secondary school (both 'O' and ‘A’ Level) and vocational training or apprenticeship from a recognized institution producing journeyman level technicians is required.
2.  Work Experience: Two years of journeyman technician/mechanic experience in relevant trade and one year of working foreman experience is required.
3.   Language Requirement: Level II (Limited knowledge) in spoken and written English ability is required.
4.   Knowledge:  Full journeyman refrigeration air-conditioning knowledge of established practices and procedures on air-conditioning electrical trade is required.
5.  Skills:  Basic knowledge of the construction industry and use of the hand and power tools and professionally be able to determine extent of damage or problem with the experience it takes to make necessary recommendations for equipment repair or replacement.  Must hold a valid Ugandan driver’s license.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

After an initial application screening, applicants will be invited to a testing process that may include a written examination and oral interviews.  The selected candidate must pass pre-employment medical and security investigations before beginning work.  The initial appointment period is one year, subject to renewal.

Normally, candidates for employment are hired at the first step of the designated pay grade.  In some instances, candidates may be hired at a higher step when exceptional qualifications or previous governmental service and pay level so warrant.  The Human Resources Officer will make the decision with the concurrence of the employing section.


ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1.  Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2.  Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.  Current Ordinarily Resident (OR) employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.

4.   Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

5.   Currently employed  Not Ordinarily Residents (NORs) hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
